I used to live in northern NJ back in the day. I remember buying the Sgt. Pepper CD at Music Merchant on the day it came out. Is the owner still as cranky as he used to be (assuming he's still the same guy?)

Nicely said, Fogalu. I grew up with stereo too so I still love it, it's my go to Pepper. (Love those backing vocals in Fixing a Hole.) I do enjoy the mono too.

Fortunately the original mixes won't disapear. Unlike what Genesis did with their remixing campaign.

This made me get out my unplaced SFF/PL I bought on the day of release way back then together with the copy I played. It's beautiful.

On the RSD 2017 sound quality thread, I just posted a few impressions on the RSD remix of Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane.

Sounds great, and I am now looking forward to hearing what Giles did to Sgt. Pepper.

They were $8 on the day in the US and 15 pounds in England - on Amazon UK there were some at that 15 pound price

But they are not anymore :(

Near the five corners in Westwood. For the full experience get your vinyl at MM, then get a slice of circular sicilian at Lisa's :)

Don't feel bad -- I live 20 minutes away, and I thought they closed years ago! I drove an hour away (Vintage Vinyl in Ford, NJ) for RSD! :shake:

Okay, but I wouldn't have dreamed this notion that the "compiled master" tape would then be used to create an "EQ'd master" for regular use. How do we get the compressed Venus and Mars tape that many folk wish MPL would stop using? Isn't that an EQ'd master as opposed to the original compiled master?

My experience making albums back in the day is that we would go to the mastering studio to cut the album master, and that the same EQ and balancing moves and compression, whatever was done to trick out the final tapes (a banded compilation of approved mixes) to create the master stamper itself, was also run simultaneously to a quarter inch tape for future reference or, perhaps, use. I presume that's what we're talking about here, that copies of this sort of EQ'd tape would be shipped off to make other masters to press albums elsewhere. I also presume tapes like this were used later on in some cases to make CD's from, like RCA used for Bowie. In many of these cases, consumers have even preferred those CD's because they resembled more closely the original vinyl.

I presume you're kidding but have to ask: Anyone know if there will be room to put the Vinyl version in the big box?! Would be lovely if CDs and vinyl were all housed together like the Smile Sessions.

That's what I was asking is there room to house all the vinyl as well.

NumberEight Came too late and stayed too long

Problem solved! (There's even room for the 1987 CD, assuming you've kept it)

If HMV had any clout they'd do their version of the 2017 Pepper reissue.

That'd be the one. My point being that this would add another generation.
