I Am Shelby Lynne is still the peak for me — but I guess I better pull out Love, Shelby and give it another shot.

This album and the new Gregg Allman album are highly anticipated.

Really looking forward to this one, they sing beautifully together and the song picks look good, challenging even. Always been more of an Allison Moorer fan (although I Am Shelby Lynne is amazing) but this is one of those pairings that should have happened along time ago. Here's a rockin' track they did on Allison's 2003 live album Show:

It would be great to hear Shelby work with Peter Wolf once again. Tragedy is sublime.

Now streaming at NPR, it's really lovely, and those harmonies are sublime.

Massive fan of Shelby Lynne's voice and am really looking forward to this album, although I hate to be a buzzkill but on first (and second) listen it sounds like "Not Dark Yet" is a little rushed to me.

I love this! Their voices are indeed sublime together -- I could really do without the Nirvana tune and would gladly replace it for literally ANYTHING else...

I actually think "In Bloom" works on the album. Once you get past the "oh crap, is that a Nirvana song?" factor they make it their own. But that's me.

Just posted on their Facebook page:

There has been an unfortunate delay in the production of vinyl copies of Not Dark Yet. Due to circumstances unpredicted and beyond our control, we will not be able to deliver them to you by tomorrow, the release date.

As soon as a worthy test pressing is delivered to us and we can manufacture records that we are proud of, we will get them to you. Please accept our humble apologies and know that it is of the utmost importance that we give you a quality record and one that holds up to your discerning ears. We look forward to doing that as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected]

    Thank you for your patience.

    Sincerely,
    Shelby and Allison

I'd rather wait than get a crappy pressing or whatever is causing the delay.

This was streaming on NPR in advance of the release, so there are a few comments above. It is probably not on NPR any longer, since today was the official release date. It's on Spotify if you use that service.

As I mentioned above, I love this and their voices sound gorgeous together. I could do without the Nirvana cover, but I think all the other choices work beautifully for them.

I was excited to read in the Los Angeles Times link (#43 above) that they are already contemplating a second volume!

  24. My copy arrived in the mail today, I must say I absolutely love it. Those voices sound wonderful together and apart from an odd cover of Nirvana's "Lithium" they really bring something special to the material. A highlight in the career of both Shelby and Allison.
