Like many here (I am sure) I read reviews of certain new reissues/releases here and then quite often forget which ones. What is worse for me as a UK member is that we don't really have any bricks and mortar audiophile shops so I can't even count on browsing as a way to nudge my memory. Anyway, I am currently in Australia where they have audiophile shops with Japanese SACDs, Mofi etc. Of course, now I am faced with so much choice I can't remember what I should prioritise so wondered if you people could remind me of their (currently available) SACD audiophile favourites.

The ones I think I need to pick up whilst I am here are:

Supertramp - Breakfast In America SACD
    Hendrix - Axis Bold SACD

I already have Pink Floyd WYWH, Roxy Music Avalon SHM SACD and Love Forever Changes MOFI SACD.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

"The Jimi Hendrix Experience ~ Axis: Bold as Love" is worth it for the mono!

    Dynamic Range Database rating:
Album details - Dynamic Range Database

1st 13 tracks are the stereo album; while the 2nd 13 tracks are the ratings for the mono album's tracklisting.
The additional dynamic range reveals tonal qualities & characteristics "i" find the stereo tracks lack. Though other factors many be at play; nonetheless, the numbers back up greater dynamics on the mono tracks.
If your into that sort of thing!

    Enjoy the journey.

I have tons of SACDs.... my faves are a few SHM-SACDs like Who’s Next, Quadrophonia, Tubular Bells or Master of Reality.

The Hendrix SACD is amazing - you won’t be disappointed. Only the UHQR stereo vinyl and MAYBE the Reprise tri-color steamboat original American vinyl pressing can best that SACD.

If you run across Beck’s “Sea Change” on stereo/multichannel SACD and Herbie Hancock’s “Head Hunters” Japanese SACD (on SME Records) from the late 90s, I’d pick those up. Unlikely you’ll find them however, as they’re OOP and expensive. (Disclaimer: I haven’t heard the AP “Head Hunters” SACD but I’be heard the aforementioned Japanese one and I like it. It’s a tad bright, though.)

I'd also second "Masters of Reality" and "Quadrophenia". Have a bunch of SHM-SACD too. Some of them sound like there were going for a complete flat transfer of the master tape, and I'd think "Oh! Well. That's why we need mastering engineers." Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" and Wishbone's Ash "Argus" sound somewhat uninvolving because of that.

Most of my favourite SACD's are jazz or classical, but for pop-rock I currently dig: Carole King "Tapestry", CCR "Green River" and Kinks "Muswell Hillbilies" .

Thanks for suggestions. Hadn't thought of Black Sabbath on SACD before. Might add that to my list.

The AP Creedence Clearwater Revival SACDs mastered by our host are an absolute must -they sound incredible.

The Aerosmith Tous In the Attic SACD is a marmite affair because of booming bass and a tweaked EQ but the multichannel mix is a thing of beauty to me (the other Aerosmith SACDs are a trainwreck though). The Audio Fidelity Boz Scaggs I’m a fan of.

Eric Clapton Journeyman and Pilgrim (also by my host) if you like those albums.

    Jeff Beck Blow by Blow

    MFSL Jerry Garcia/David Grisman
    The MFSL Lynyrd Skynyrd
Audio Fidelity Paul Butterfield Blues Band - East-West
    MFSL Pretenders
Audio fidelity Rush counterparts and presto
MFSL Ry Cooder - paradise and Lunch
Audio Fidelity - Spirit - Spirit
MFSL - Allman Brothers - Eat A Peach
MFSL - the Band - The Band
MFSL - Bob Dylan - New Morning
MFSL - The Cars - The Cars
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs (although a little bright)
Audio Fidelity - America - America

I love the recent 'paper sleeve' Japanese single-layer SACDs of:
The Rolling Stones - "Exile On Main Street"
Fairport Convention - "Liege & Leif"
    T-Rex - "Electric Warrior"
Black Sabbath - "Master Of Reality"

Four of my big high school go-to's in '72...

The AP SACD of Headhunters is better. A better stereo mastering and also includes the quad mix like the Sony SACD.

Beck's Sea Change has a wonderful surround mix, but the MFSL Gold CD has a better stereo mastering.

Only worth it for the multichannel mix. The stereo mix is too digitally compressed.

If you like some power pop (a genre not known for great Sonics) there is a SACD of Big Stars first two recordings that was done by their original engineer.

I wouldn’t call it audiophile, but it’s a heck of a lot easier to be immersed in the music without the somewhat screechy high end of the original recordings. I second the suggestion of Quadrophenia. Great re release.

There are several Elton John SACD’s that show off what I think is the peak of rock audiophile recording of the 2” tape 70’s era.

The Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (SHM-SACD and MFSL) is okay.... but only a minor improvement over the original CD.

I just checked my notes of the AF SACDs.... which are really better.

    America - Homecoming
Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Vol. II
    Warren Zevon - Excitable Boy
    Mike Bloomfield - Super Session
    Eric Clapton - Pilgrim
Laura Nyro - Eli And The Thirteenth Confession
    Joe Walsh - So What
John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band - Eddie & The Cruisers
    Jeff Beck - Truth
    Rush - Counterparts

sorry mate. I thought you were in on this :).
There's so far only one confirmed copy out there. Sony's single layer SACD . In the ownership of one SH forum member. I think there's thread on this.
