..just had throw this out there ...got to love P.P. Anderson's bust out vocals.

It's going to take me a bit to sort out my top 10 .

Tin Soldier is indeed a marvellous piece of music. But it's PP Arnold and I'm not sure that "bust out" is quite appropriate in this context. Perhaps it was the association with P Anderson that sent your mind in a certain direction?

There are times I am convinced that Tin Soldier is the best 3:24 of rock music ever recorded. It was gratifying reading Mac’s memoir where he commented that every time he heard that track, he’d get the slightest tear in his eye. I was like, so I’m in good company!

It's such an underrated track, so full of joy. The extended mix on the Immediate box is just sublime.

The 'finished' version that Marriott recorded with Humble Pie [appallingly titled 'Wrist Job'] is just gloriously soulful. If only the Small Faces had stayed together long enough to finish their version. Well, if only they'd stayed together, period.

Is it me or does there seem to be (at present) a preference for the Immediate years?

  21. At least it's reassuring to see all the love for "Tin Soldier". It only made it to #73 in the Billboard chart after "Itchycoo Park" got to #16. Wikipedia says this about "Tin Soldier" - "In 1997, some 30 years after the song's original release, Mojo magazine voted "Tin Soldier" the tenth best single of all time, in a readers' poll. The poll placed it ahead of anything by The Who or The Rolling Stones."

I'm surprised E to D only gets the one mention so far, for me it's freakbeat par bloody excellence. Their version of Willie Dixon's You Need Love isn't too shabby either, as Robert Plant thought as well...

If we'd had the option of picking 10 Immediate tracks and 10 Decca tracks, E To D would have easily made my Decca list.
