I know there have been a couple of threads a few years ago about Shorpy.com, which is the most fascinating photo site, but I thought I'd share these train related pictures from Chicago. I really like them.

The first three are Chicago and Northwestern trains in repair bay Dec, 1943.
The black and white picture was captioned Chicago train shed, 1911. I can't tell if it's Union Station or not from the picture.

Two more : Chicago under the L tracks . ( Short for elevated train tracks, for those that are unaware of the term.)

Chicagos Union Station concourse Jan,1943. Note the "For them bombs" mural thing on the wall.

Talk about pictures evoking the era. If you're into vintage photos and haven't been to the site, click on a city on the opening page and lose two hours.:D

I made a wrong turn the other day while leaving NYC, and ended up on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx, which has L tracks much like the ones seen above.

Philadelphia's EL tracks are still there. The area around there (former site of American Bandstand) is really a ghetto. Scary place.

I love shorpy. Even the most mundane photos are fascinating to poke around in. Closest thing to a time machine I'll ever see.
