Doc Boggs' "Country Blues", which I first heard in a Doc Watson recording. Some great lyrics (as I remember them): All around this old jailhouse this evenin' Forty dollars won't go my fine Corn whisky has surrounded my body Pretty women is a troublin' my mind
Deep Purple - Wrong Man (2005) According to Michael Heatley in The Complete Deep Purple, this song was inspired by Wayne Williams, "a man imprisoned under dubious circumstances". Ian Gillan appears to believe in his innocence and would introduce it as such in concert, but can it really be said that the case of Wayne Bertram Williams became a cause célèbre? Williams was convicted of two murders on February 26, 1982, but is believed to be responsible for many more. The Atlanta Child Murders was a series of perhaps as many as 29 killings. One possible victim was a young girl, all the rest were either boys or young men, and all were black. Though it remains to be seen if Williams was responsible for all the murders, the evidence against him was compelling.
Hank Williams - “Please Make Up Your Mind”: “You say get out, and I'd better stay gone / Then you have a big policeman drag me back home / You holler good and loud put him in the calaboose / Then you cry and ask the judge, ‘Won't you please turn him loose?’”
On the Rocks - Angel The sky was blue and the night was young We were havin' just a bit of fun But the I heard the front door slam And I knew that it was time to run You daddy saw me jump the front gate I was pullin' up my old blue jeans But how was I to know he was the Sheriff He grabbed me and it started a scene Chorus: Here am I, standing alone on the rocks Here am I, standing alone on the rocks I tried joking, I tried crying I even asked to let me go home He never listened, no, he never answered Just handed me a toothbrush and comb I learned my lesson, yeah, you know I did I guess I'm gonna be here awhile I'll never see her, oh, the Sheriff's daughter I'm chained to a lonely rock pile Chorus: Here am I, standing alone on the rocks Here am I, standing alone on the rocks Here am I, standing alone on the rocks Here am I, standing alone on the rocks
Are we talking literally the word jail or jail as interchangeably with prison. The Jailhouse Now Dear Mama
