What are some songs you can think of that open with a "zoop!" or bent guitar riff?

Off the top of my head, Huey Lewis & the News' 1984 hit "I Want a New Drug" opens with that guitar bend effect (Chris Hayes or Johnny Colla?).

  6. Jimi Hendrix version of "Hey Joe" starts with a cool effect: A bending on the B string from D to E while simultaneously playing the open high E string.

In fact, a lot of us guitar gearheads might like to know what the exact term for that sound effect is.

  10. When I read "Zoop!" riff, I pictured the beginning of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Call Me The Breeze," but it doesn't qualify based on the previous examples.

Similar to the sound in "Call Me The Breeze" is the guitar at the very beginning of the "Soon Be Home" section from The Who's "A Quick One, While He's Away."

It's a hammer on/pull-off, isn't it? Always thought so anyway.

  15. Probably. I've always felt it as a bend, but I may be wrong. Still, both techniques sound very similar in this case, since it's a quick effect (so not enough time to discern).

For the record: it's a hammer on, not a bend.

    Apparently it's "zoop"!

I came into the thread mainly to find out what a "zoop" effect was! :)
