    We have a nine-month old baby girl. I love singing to her as I rock her to sleep at night. I've been expanding my repertoire and am looking for more good songs to sing to her. I didn't see a thread about this so I thought I'd start one.

    My go-tos have been:

    R.E.M., "Electrolite" and "You Are the Everything"
    Bowie, "Kooks" and "Life on Mars?"
    Prince, "Starfish and Coffee"
    Beatles, "Yellow Submarine"

    What have you sung to your babies?

    colinu I'm not lazy, I'm energy saving!

    I do a medley of "Row Your Boat" and "The Addams Family" theme.

    I change the lyrics of "Rock-a-bye Baby" to "but we'll save baby, and she won't fall".

    My aunt used to sing us "Jamaica Farewell".

    Really you could sing any lyrics to a baby. Just as long as the melody is lullaby-like, then the baby won't know or care about the meaning of the words. For example, you could try singing Lennon's "Cold Turkey" as a slow, lilting tune: "temperatures rising, fever is high, can't see no future, can't see no sky ", etc. It never failed to put my little ones asleep for their naps...

    The two songs that I sang all three of my kids to sleep with were;
    Beautiful Boy (or Girl as the case may be) by John Lennon
    and
    Goodnight by the Beatles.

    Sang You Are My Sunshine to my boys. They remember it to this day so I'm glad I did.

    I always sang Ripple and American Pie to my girls when putting them to sleep. Great melodies and lyrics. Ripple is beautiful and profound.

    I sang a lot of British Invasion and Jesus & Mary Chain songs to my daughter when she was an infant--simple melodies, easy lyrics to remember.

    Also, and this is silly, being a huge music fan I've always wondered, all my life, what the first song I would ever sing to my child would be...well, when she was just a few days old in one of those middle-of-the-night crying jags, I found the words coming unbidden out of my exhausted mouth: "Right about now/the funk soul brother/it's about now/the funk soul brother." So, yes, The Rockafeller Skank was the first song I ever sang to my child.
