Yesterday on the radio I heard the Beatles Something and Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll back to back and got me thinking about what are some of the other great drum introduction songs. Perhaps the best and certainly my favorite is Pictures of Home from Deep Purple's Machine Head album.

As a rock drummer of 30 years I do enjoy 'challenging' drum tracks but the one intro that always gets me probably more than any other is "Young Americans" for it's sheer simplicity, not sure if it was Dennis Davis or Andy Newmark, though I suspect the latter.

I like Cozy Powell's drum instrumental intro to one of the last songs on the Forcefield II - The Talisman record. It's a pretty wimpy record, but this drum solo and the cover of "Strange Kind of Woman" (Deep Purple) are entertaining.
