Sony DAV-FC8 Home Theater Setup on Samsung Smart TV

HEy all,

My father in law recently gifted me an older Home Theater set up. It's a Sony DAV-FC8 and I'm trying to figure out how to hook this thing up to my Samsung Smart TV. I got the RCA > HDMI cables to connect to the TV and when playing a CD or DVD it works fine but I cannot get the TV audio to actually come in through the surround sound speakers. I noticed that there is an optical out on the tv but the only optical in on the back of receiver is labeled Video 2 Digital Optical In. Would a digi optical cable actually correct this?

Yes, you want to connect optical audio out on the TV to optical in on the home theater. Just use a standard toslink cable for this. Shouldn't be much more than $10.

 

Thank you so much. I found a cable at Bestbuy for like 7 bucks. I'll try it tomorrow and report back tomorrow. I appreciate the help. It's just so friggin' confusing, haha.
