CBS Mastersound should be 1/2 speed mastered vinyl from the 80's.

Need Help with CBS mastersound gold disc!

Iam new here and have just been looking around at the topics for the last two months and thought I might post a question here for some answers.

    CBS Mastersound 24kt Gold Disc's
Are these as good as a MFSL pressing,do they use the same methods to remaster and When did they stop making them.

Also would anyone have a list of which ones were made

Hmm... sometimes, no, and don't know. Only a few of these releases are considered 'definitive' here.

Here's the best list I know of.

Thanks for the webpage. Iam interested in these albums if someone could help me with how they sound.

CK 64405 Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here CK 53753

EK 64425 Stevie Ray Vaughan Couldn't Stand the Weather EK 53927

    CK 64611 Bloomfield/ Kooper/ Stills Super Session N/A

The first two titles are on ebay right now but cant find a super session.

Is Super Session very hard to find?

Is it worth spending the money on these titles(Or should I stick with the remasters)

I like to collect too but the main reason to buy these is to listen to them.

Any info would help out a lot

    thanks

There is a recent thread discussing the Floyd title:

    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=108439&page=3&highlight=mastersound

The CK 33453 disc the Japanese CBS/Sony pressing (divided into two tracks) beats the Mastersound. Dave said this about it :The Mastersound sounds a tad bright/harsh in the top end, but that 2 track remains smooth and easy to listen to even at loud volumes.

With regard to the Vaughan Mastersound, I believe the remaster was recommended here. I think it is Epic/CBS VEK-39304.

Great Mastersounds are Journey, Roger Waters and Van Morrison to name a few. I like Janis Joplin Pearl, S&G Bridge Over Troubled Water and CTA (Chicago) is also good. I also like Willie Nelson Stardust.

The Boston s/t is overly bright. Best digital version is the SACD, if you can play it. Not sure how they stack up against the newer Tom Sholz approved remaster.

    Sony Mastersound CD thread

I have a few DCC and MFSL but so far no Mastersound. Which ones are worth getting? I found this list:

    http://www.24-karat.de/sony/

I know Steve likes the Santana one and the Carole King Tapestry (if only because it's a straight transfer of the master tapes). Any others worthwhile? How about the Billie Holiday?

I have the Santana and can highly recommend it. Don't like the Springsteen Born to Run though and wasn't so keen on Silk Degrees. Never heard any of the others.

The Billie Holiday is a bad transfer (IMO)... I don't like very much the sound.

Boz Scaggs' Silk Degrees, Santana I and Pink Floyd's WYWH sound good to my ears!

Roger Waters - Amused To Death sounds sublime. Santana S/T has been mentioned, those are my two personal faves.

I've never heard the Mastersound of Tapestry; I was talking about the old SACD.

Chicago Transit Authority on Gold is great as is Simon & Garfunkel/Bridge...

I did NOT like Boston/ST, Dylan/Blonde on Blonde and most others I have not ever heard.

Steve, Blonde on Blonde is great. Killed all the pests within 50 feet and drove off the pack of wild dogs that were attacking.

Not good for listening, though. :sigh:

I'd be interested if anyone's heard these ones:

Gloria Estefan - Let it loose
    Weather Report - Heavy Weather

The REO Speedwagon Hi Infidelity will kill bugs at 1000 ft.
The Toto IV, Boz Scaggs Silk Degrees and Jeff Beck Blow by Blow sound good, but are bettered by the MFSL issues.
The Willie Nelson sounds very good to me also.

Don't get Blonde on Blonde. Born To Run is the best sounding version I have heard. Journey's Infinity and SRV's Couldn't Stand The Weather, and Billy Joel's 52nd Street all sound great too.
