DCC Archive Steve I didn't know you mastered BTO already!?

    Until I saw the one hit wonders thread.
    You should have mentioned this when we (Gary & I) were rambling on about Canadian bands. Now I must find those Hits of the 70's cds which can be a little challenging up here in the GWN. By the way did you recieve the cassettes that we sent to DCC for you yet? :)

    My old garage band used to play (mangle) four of their songs, so yes, I like them... Guess Who, too!

    Ok... I just gotta know: Steve, what was the name of your old garage band?

    As an aside, the last garage band that I was in during collage (1989 or thereabouts) was called "Free Beer" - a name which, I can assure you, was a really really bad idea.

    Oh.. and (segue) the name "Holy Zoo" is the name of an indie band that I manage out of San Francisco. Mp3s available on request. :)

    I think pehaps a lot of people may like and appreciate BTO with your added or not added touch to them as the case may be. I know for sure I'd buy at least 4. LOL. ;)

    Their "Not Fragile" on DTS is quite an interesting listen. It's cool. Hey, let's hear it for the band [most likely] on every K-Tel rock collection ever made!

    The name of our band was "Quagmire". It was made up of MCA Records people who could play. There were four (sometimes five) of us. I think that was it for the entire company. Silly, but we were pretty OK, as long as we didn't try for any lofty musical hights.

    We had a deal with my landlord. We could make as much noise as we wanted in my apartment, one night a week (Tuesday night) for three hours. In return, when the landlord went on vacation (which was a lot), I had to take his place as the junior landlord...

    Mainly we did covers: The Shadows/Beatles/Who/BTO/Elvis, etc. You know, the usual stuff.

    Two of the Quag's are still working at UNI, one lives in NYC and married a famous record producer, and one is a computer expert who STILL has the largest LP collection I have ever seen!!!

    Oh yeah, I forgot that. The fun part, was that we could (mainly) switch instruments, to keep from getting stale.

    I usually played guitar, but sometimes drums or keyboards (helpful on "Good Lovin", "Let's Dance", or anything by the Sir Douglas Quintet or Joe "King" C.)

    So you're a mutlti-talented induvidual. Any professional training or performing exp. or are you just a natural (player) and do you sing as well? So that's why youb asked me what guitar I played and amp. preference I had. ;)

    Dave, I play several instruments, average-ly.

    I was taught guitar by a electric player I knew in high school. I drummed since I was a lad, and I took piano when I was 8 until after college. Can't play any reeds, brass or violin-type instruments.

    But, being able to play piano, means one can play pipe organs, Xylophones, Marimbias, etc. That's pretty neat. Also, playing drums, one can play triangle, tympani, and all types of cool percussion. I used to goof around in school in the band room. Fun, but pointless, since I lacked the discipline (sp?) to really be good.

    I can carry a tune, but couldn't get away with singing lead on anything newer than 1966..

    I love guitars, and even though I can't play like Clapton, I can at least play the same type of guitars he plays. :D

    Now there's an artist you could really get your teeth into and I'm 101% sure dcc could get their financial retributions from as well. To hear Clapton approprietly aaahhhh... :) :cool: :D

    Brad, I love J. J. Cale. "Crazy Mama" was one of our bands favorites, 'cause we could slow it down and get soulful (as we could get).

    Too bad the J. J. stuff sounds so bad on CD.

    Any good sounding J. J. CD's out there? Last time I checked I couldn't find any...

    Yes, both "Apachie" and "Man Of Mystery". Two of the neatest songs to come out of England in the 1960's...

    Geez, I loved playing "Man Of Mystery" on Gee-tar. So simple, yet so satisfying... :)

    There is a 2 CD Anthology and a "Very Best of J.J. Cale" compilation remastered a couple of years ago.
