"Strawberry Fields Forever"/"Penny Lane" Single on April 22 (Record Store Day 2017)

Red vinyl would've been cool.

If this was the debut of the 2017 Penny Lane mix, I'd be all over it. But sounds like it is the 2015, which I really don't like.

I'm kind of disappointed that this release isn't the 2014 mono remasters.
I held off picking up the RSD "Long Tall Sally" until just a couple of months ago when I found a copy for 50% off at my local Bullmoose. After listening to it, I think would have paid full price. IMO it sounds even better than the Mono Masters tracks. When I heard rumors of a SFF/PL single, I was anticipating the same thing. I may still pick this up, but only because I'm weak. Too bad they didn't do a 12" with the stereo remixes on one side and the 2014 mono on the other.

 

We don't for certain what mixes are being used, do we? It would be cool if the labels were and a replication of the labels of the US Capitol promo 45 and actually included the promo mix of Penny Lane.

That is NOT how Record Store Day is supposed to work! What will those kids who are camping outside the store all night and had plans to sell your "reserved" record on eBay for triple the actual cost do now?

 

The guilt got to me, I decided to abide by the spirit of RSD and placed a bid on ebay.......

 

Just listened to it, incredible new mix! The Newbury Comics near my house only got four copies...

Well that was stressful! It took me 3 Bullmoose stores, and a slight bit of maniacal driving, before I finally found a copy. Glad I decided to go early.

 

How much at the actual stores please ?
Unable to go... so got it for 30.00 the cheapest eBay buy now in US listed.

Got it for 7.98 at one of the locals here in Omaha. Just spun it and its quite nice! The new mix of Penny Lane sounds pretty gorgeous. I'll need to do some AB-ing tonight before I can really tell you guys any specifics, because the mix I listen to the most is the mono mix, so while I think it sounds great I don't know off-hand how this ranks against the prior 3 or 4 stereo mixes.

 

Has anyone else picked this up and listened to it? SFF is of the 2015 remix which I happened to like on "1". Penny Lane, according to the record label (black and silver Parlophone)is of the 2017 remix...or 2017 SOMETHING...I played it back to back with the 2015 remix and honestly can hardly tell a difference save for the weaker resolution going from vinyl to CD. The only slight differences are in the opening piano which is more upfront in the CD and the woodwond line prior to the band kicking in which is more upfront on the single. other than that, if it didn't actually say "2017" on the record, I'd have thought this was simply a 2017 REMASTER of the 2015 mix.

 

That's disappointing. You'd think that if they went through the trouble of remixing it again that they'd fix all the grievances.
