"Strawberry Fields Forever"/"Penny Lane" Single on April 22 (Record Store Day 2017)

Luckily I was on holiday today and saved a small fortune by not visiting a record store. Disappointed to hear PL is not up to scratch. Wasn't this the new 2017 mix?

 

I think it was $8.99 at the Manchester Newbury Comics. They got a total of FOUR copies.

 

And yet it will remain open, just like all the other ridiculously redundant B**tles related threads.

 

If only there was a forum that shared info about records and knew that there was nothing new about this single for almost a week now, where a person could look to find information before blindly buying anything with the word Beatles on it.

Strangely despite their near ubiquitous popularity there seems to be little discussion of Beatles related topics anywhere on the vast interwebz.

 

I don't know... I kinda dug it. The Kanye rap that comes in at the 2 minute mark is absolutely devastating!
I also like the Tom Morello solo. Bruce would be soooo proud!!!!

It if it makes you feel any better, I saw a copy of The Beatles single this morning within ten feet of me, of which I kindly asked the gentleman holding it if there was possibly another copy over there for me and to my surprise, he truly took the time to look through the pile again, but sadly said no. For that perfect stranger, amongst all of these crazed people to do that for me, is something that I will never forget!

Tonight, I will instead be spinning my old orange label copy of "Strawberry Fields", just for him and his kindness and I truly hope that you eventually secure your RSD copy!

 

So. One thread says it's great (and a Half-Speed Master™ ) and the other says it's crap. Par for the course.

I think it comes down to whether or not one agrees with the mixing choices. I dont. Youd have to listen yourself in order to know.

Vinyl 'resolution' tops out at about 80 dB; while CD measures up to 150 dB.
Vinyl has "weaker resolution" w/high frequencies as playback gets closer to the label.

Vinyl has "weaker resolution" w/bass; bass has to be 'cut out' during mastering [RIAA equalization is applied for playback/protentionaly introducing 'rumble'].​

Vinyl has 'weaker resolution' w/dynamic range than CD because of the limited space between groves on LP's.

Wow...you really misunderstood me...the weaker resolution was meant for the CD.

 

Some of the Capitol singles are quite good as well..the original mono Capitol single of SFF/PL actually sounds great. Paperback Writer and I Want To Hold Your Hand, also.

I went to 4 stores and there were many copies available at each even after a few hours. Scandalously overpriced at $18-20, I didn't pick one up.
