Bill Morrissey first released his self titled album in 1984. When it was released on CD in 1991, it was a re-recording of the same songs with 3 additional tracks.

There is a Carole King Tapestry Deluxe edition with the original album on the first disc and the 2nd disc is a live album with all of the tracks in the same order sans Where You Lead.

    Wasp Star-Homegrown

The second one features the demos for all the songs in order and, in some cases, multiple demos within the same version. For the record they recorded them in their home studios.

  6. I don't know if it counts but XTC released alternate versions of the albums "Apple Venus" and "Wasp Star" using their respective demos.

Prince: Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic / Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic [mostly remixed versions]
Chuck Berry's Golden Hits, released when he signed to Mercury, featured re-recordings of many of his hits on Chess.
Many Elvis Costello Rhino reissues contained many, if not all of the album songs in demo or alternate form [like Get Happy, Imperial Bedroom, etc.]
I recall Derek & The Dominoes' Layla was completely remixed around 1990 for it's 20th anniversary release.
John Lennon's solo works from POB to Walls And Bridges were remixed in the late 90's/early 2000's.
Beatles' Sgt. Pepper 50th anniversary release featured both a remixed version and a version cobbled together from early [or alternate] takes.
Paul McCartney's Flowers In The Dirt Deluxe edition includes both acoustic demos recorded with Elvis Costello and demos recorded with a band. [Neither of these could replicate an existing album, however, as these demo songs were either unreleased or spread across four albums by McCartney & Costello.]

Didn't AC/DC record the Back in Black album a whole bunch of times and released them with different album titles?

I love the idea , the same main songs released in 3 differents album versions.
Each album is representative of the 3 ennemies you will fight during the game

Into The Flames (Country style by Various Artists) => Jacob Seed
We Will Rise Again (Ambiant style by Hammock)=> Faith Seed
When The World Falls (Gospel style by The Hope County Choir) => John Seed

There is a 4th album for Joseph Seed character, but countains only instrumentals score from the game

    Another good exemple

    U2 (1991) Achtung Baby / (2011) Kindergarten

Albini is the original, they remixed it and added some overdubs.

So many of the responses here aren't what the OP asked for...

Marvin Gaye's What's Going On deluxe version has a second completely different mix included in the set.

Marvin Gaye's What's Going On album was originally recorded at Motown in Detroit. Marvin re-did the album in LA, e.g. adding strings. The LA version was the one released in '71, though the "Detroit mix" is now also available (along with the live version from the Kennedy Center, in DC) on an expanded/deluxe edition.

Elvis Costello's debut album My Aim is True was recorded with members of US group Clover in 1976. By the time it was released in 1977 he had formed the Attractions, who he was playing live with. I think he re-recorded the album with the Attractions that year, and that the original plan was to release that new version after initial copies of the Clover-backed album had sold. That didn't happen, so Elvis' second album, This Years Model, was the first with the Attractions. As far as I know, the studio version with the Attractions was never released, though it is effectively available as a live recording (from a West London concert) by Elvis and the Attractions on expanded CD.

The deluxe edition of the Stones Sticky Fingers released in 2015 had alternate versions of about half the original tracks, including Clapton on guitar on Brown Sugar (plus other live cuts).

Springsteen's The River double album was originally recorded as a single album before Bruce added, subtracted and changed some tracks. The single album is now available on The Ties That Bind box set (I think the title that it was meant to be released under as a single album in the first place).

And they still managed to omit alternate versions of some more of the studio cuts (Sway, Sister Morphine and You Gotta Move). They also omitted some earlier alternate versions of Brown Sugar and Wild Horses as well. Some of the Brown Sugar alternates omit the sax solo.

Let’s turn that around. Of the nine tracks on the original album, seven are presented in alternate versions. (Only two are represented by remixes.)

I think this falls well within the spirit of this thread.

It's an alternate earlier mix that came out as part of a deluxe edition a couple of years ago - it's more rock-based than the actual album.

I searched the thread and saw no mention of:

    Fiona Apple: Extraordinary Machine

She initially recorded the album with Jon Brion, then re-recorded it with Mike Elizondo. The Brion version is available on bootleg. There is one new song on the Elizondo version ("Parting Gift") not on the original version. The versions are often quite different from each other, but both are great in their own ways.

Sleep’s Dopesmoker was rejected by their label, so they shortened it (it was a 60 minute track), remixed it, broke it into sections and retitled it Jerusalem. They released the original version a few years later.

Good question. The new players were:

    Tenor Saxophone – Steve Gregory
    Baritone Saxophone – Bud Beadle
    Trumpet – Rod M Lee
    Guitar – Spit James

And, somewhat surprisingly, original guitarist 'Brother' now gets a credit under his real name. One of them, anyway. :)
