SFA are one of my all time favorite bands. I knew I would regret it if I didn't at least try to obtain a copy.
I got the 4lp version, the 5lp was already gone when I checked in. In retrospect I’m kinda happy, cause that is a lot of money for that extra lp Not that I wouldn’t have clicked on buy if it was still available at that time
I'm hoping that the live version of "Wherever I Lay My Phone (That's My Home)" on the 5th LP takes up an entire side.
TBH, for me that song is one of the few times SFA crossed over that fine line - from dazzlingly quirky to gimmicky and grating.
Then you haven't heard the 'songs' they made on McCatney's "Liverpool Sound Collage"..... Now, THAT'S what I call 'gimmicky and grating'!
Oh man ... I LOVE the techno elements on Guerrilla. I wish they did more of that kinda stuff on the later records.
Just got back from Gruff's Babelsberg show. Much to enjoy, although a bit low key at times. He did do SFA's Colonize The Moon, a Love Kraft b-side, which was a nice treat.
They all are melodic Rings Around The World is a good example, but Phantom Power is even more melodic, imho. And then on Hey Venus you have this:
ITs going to be hard to reach a consensus about that, but given that Rings was the major label debut maybe there was an extra effort to making it more accesible. Anyway, i think each of its records have their charms.
I actually just stayed up until 1am CST in order to get it. What's worse is that I knew I would have at least one friend that would want one of the 4xLP versions, so I bought one of those, too!
SFA Twitter: @strangetowncru announce a 2nd edition 'SFA at the BBC' vinyl box set is now in print. There may be a slight delay from the official release date of 23/11 due to manufacturing constraints. We would like to thank everyone for their support & requests which has made this possible. Due to unforeseen demand we are pleased to announce a 2nd edition of the @superfurry at the BBC' vinyl box set. A further 500 copies are now in print & will be made available from all good record stores across the UK.
I highly doubt the 2nd edition will include the 5th LP. Kliph said the pressing plant would only agree to do 100 copies of that LP due to it being time intensive.
Also I wonder if the additional copies will have the individually numbered yeti fur packets. I grabbed one of the 4LP sets from Pledge Music. Logged on 10mins (12:10am here) after it went live and the 5LP sets were gone-zo by then. I think only about 85 of the 4LP sets remained. Super psyched for this release, and glad it was popular!! Bodes well for future SFA reissues.
