I'm a Marc collector too and have all of the original UK LPs (including the first three in mono & stereo copies) with all the inserts/posters/stickers. Also have all of the original Tyrannosaurus Rex UK 45s as well.

    Love me some Bolan Boogie!

That sounds like a great collection. Is the mono Unicorn much different to the stereo? I have the first two mono & next two stereo. I'd love to find an affordable Pewter Suitor single in particular as the others appeared on albums around the time (the Flyback compilation is useful & a great listen) but that never did.

Edsel Records have the 72 - 77 releases and they have repackaged & repackaged the stuff they have.
If you get the "Unchained" box set from them then that takes cares of their "Unchained" series of home demos & outtakes,
Along with the 72 - 77 albums they also released alternate versions of the albums made up of home demos, outtakes, radio sessions, etc.
They later packaged these together with the official albums as 2 CD sets.

Their "A Wizard, A True Star" box features a few, and I mean, a few, tracks not available elsewhere.

Universal's "20th Century Superstar" contains quite a bit of unreleased material from 68 - 71 but not so much from afterwards as Edsel has really raided the vaults on that period.

Universal have issued the 68 - 71 material several times. First as 1 CD sets with bonus material & then as 2 CD sets with even more bonus material but not always containing all the bonus material from the previous 1 disc sets.

Then there are the 40th box sets with DVD's etc.

It really is a mess & then throw in labels like Easy Action releasing the scraps that got past Universal & Edsel & you have quite the hobby on your hands....

Also, the amazing Thunderwing releases that were unfortunately halted but sometimes work with Universal & Edsel...

Oh, "20th Century Superstar" also rounds up all of Marc's pre-68 single releases as a solo artists & with John's Children.

    That would be me.

Bolan is the only artist that I can't pass it up if I don't have it. Now I draw the line at remixes.
It's a delicate line to walk. I think to myself....
Would Marc enjoy this interpretation of his work?
I don't go out of my way to seek out the remixes.
I have a LOT of Bolan CDs.
I'm currently working on expanding my vinyl collection.
I have several 45s from around the world, but no original UK issues
I guess I've never been satisfied with the condition of the record/sleeve.
A little bit of my Bolan OCD creaping in .
I do have the 5 different Reprise singles (stock & promo).

Yes, It's quite a mess. The same unreleased material get's put out again and again.
The 'Unchained Series' has been released 3 times so far...
I still think the 8 CD 2010 Unchained box set went OOP, so the could put it out again in, you guessed it, another box set. :wtf:

With everything released in the last several years, I wish we could get an updated Irving Campbell book...
I'd even pay if he just sold PDF updates....

I've always wanted to get that book - is it really worth it? The cost of it plus import tax puts me off it...maybe I'll order it one day when I'm drunk... ;)

If someone knows him, could they ask him about PDF updates, at the least?

Listening through the BBC set. CD4, track 18: Bolan's interview states that Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan played as session guys on the T. Rex self titled album (while discussing "The Wizard"). Does anyone know which track(s)? I'm a big fan of Page's session work - I know he played on some of Mickey Finn's solo stuff, but this is the first I've heard of him appearing on any of Bolan's recordings. It doesn't seem to fit as he would have been done with sessions by the time the S/T record was recorded. LZ3 would have already been out by this time.
Could he have been confused about which album? Maybe an earlier LP?
The closest I can find is Jeff Beck playing on "But She's Mine / And the Sun Will Shine" by John's Children.

Most of the stock of the shelf friendly 2010 box was destroyed in a warehouse fire unfortunately.

Bolan liked to stretch the truth and sometimes outright lie, so take comments like that with a pinch of salt...

I've been on a rampage. Picked up the 37 track Beginning of Doves, 20th Century Superstar, and Unchained.
For the Born to Boogie set...go for the 4 disc version that includes the film? Or is there a better (more complete) version on cd? Or would I be better off just getting the DVD and ripping the audio?

I would just grab the 4 disc set. When I bought it wasn't that pricey. I doubt it's went up any.
