Technics 1200mk5 vs GR Feedback Request

All, anyone got real-world experience of the Technics 1200mk5 vs 1200GR and willing to share their opinion?

I'm about to buy a mk5 and the GR is 3 x the price of a decent second hand mk5 so I'm wondering if it's really worth it?

So long as the mk5 is mint condition and comparable to the GR I'm not sure I'll notice the $2k of extra sound quality inherent in the minor improvements in the TT. (Is cogging even proven on the earlier design?)
