Capitol records has released yet another Beach Boys compilation, but this one is extra special. All tracks were hand-picked by Brian Wilson as being his favorite Beach Boys tracks:

    http://hollywoodandvine.com/beachboys/

It got me to thinking what MY favorite Beach Boys songs are and this is what I came up with:

    1. God Only Knows
    2. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)
    3. Sloop John B
    4. Wouldn't It Be Nice
    5. Good Vibrations
    6. Sail On Sailor
    7. Little Deuce Coupe
    8. Don't Worry Baby
    9. Cool Cool Water
    10. Warmth of the Sun

Interesting song choice and probably true. If "Let Him Run Wild" or "Please Let Me Wonder" were on the disc I'd say it had to be a fake, but it looks genuine....

My 10 favorite CAPITOL BB songs:

    1. Help Me Rhonda
    2. Don't Worry Baby
    3. I Get Around
    4. Wendy
    5. Fin, Fun, Fun
    6. In My Room
    7. Surfin' USA
    8. She Knows Me So Well
    9. Kiss Me Baby
    10. Pet Sounds (Entire album counts as one song for me)
    :D

Any non-Capitol favorite list for me would have to have "Good Timin'" on it. LOVE that song!

Ah, gee, I wish >I< had thought of listing Pet Sounds as a single song! My top four and more are off that record, but I had to stop after four or I would end up listing all the songs off that one record!

Gee, no votes for "'Cassius' Love vs. 'Sonny' Wilson" yet!;)

Since CM already put in a plug for "Deirdre" I must mention my other favorite "deep album" track: "Back Home", from 15 Big Ones. I was thrilled when Brian played this in concert on the Pet Sounds tour!

That song (?) combined with Bull Session With Big Daddy would have made a killer 45! :sigh:

I'm sure they coulda easily sold in excess of 10 copies "worldwide".

Glad to see quite a few BB fans picking "Breakaway" as a top tenner. I've always wondered about the collaboration here between Brian and his dad Murry. Here it is, nearly 1970, and Brian's supposed to be completely on the outs with his old man--who's betrayed him by selling his interest in Sea of Tunes, Brian's publishing company--and yet they can still write a song together. Hard to believe.

    What a great song, though.

    Gardo,

    Family ties run deep.

Don't believe everything you read on the BB's. They really were a family; a dysfunctional one, but a family nonetheless.

Yep sure is scary. In 50 or 100 years from now when we're all gone kids'll be reading BB biographies and taking it all as gospel.

Makes you think about the duty of the biographer or journalist (music or otherwise) generally. What these turkeys write today might be the history of the future. Real scary!

No particular order and I'm trying to highlight mostly the non-hits...

    1. That's Not Me (luckily I have no bad memories of a bad version of "Pet Sounds" having only owned or heard the DCC gold CD...)
    2. Farmer's Daughter
    3. Your Summer Dream
    4. Lonely Sea
    5. Kiss Me Baby (very impressed to see that a lot of you dig this beautiful song)
    6. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)
    7. All Summer Long
    8. The Warmth Of The Sun
    9. Let Him Run Wild
    10. Surfer Girl

and I simply must throw in "Wendy"...

  21. Too many good songs. I'm gonna pull a Gardo here with 10 Capitol and 10 Brother tunes. I will try and highlight non-hits as well.

I see Brian picked I Get Around.

Good choice. It was during that session for that song that they fired his dad, Murray Wilson.

Probably the best move the band ever made.

My list is going to look very similar to the others, but this is too much fun to pass up...

    In no particular order:

    1) God Only Knows
    2) Caroline, No
    3) I Just Wasn't Made for These Times
    4) Don't Worry Baby
    5) She Knows Me Too Well
    6) Let Him Run Wild
    7) Heroes and Villains
    8) Surf's Up (1966)
    9) Cabinessence
    10) Good Vibrations

Like many fans, the period from "The Beach Boys Today!" through the unreleased "Smile" is my absolute favorite. Music just doesn't get any better than that!

An IMPOSSIBLE task, but what the heck ...

    1. Kiss Me, Baby
    2. God Only Knows
    3. Fun, Fun, Fun
    4. 'Til I Die
    5. Don't Worry Baby
    6. Wake the World
    7. The Warmth of the Sun
    8. Darlin'
    9. Wouldn't It Be Nice
    10. Can't Wait Too Long

("Caroline No" definitely would have placed, but I still think of that as a solo Brian Wilson single ...)
