Thank You Janie Hendrix

I know that Janie Hendrix is a sometimes controversial figure. But I feel that she has done an excellent job as the guardian and promoter of the brilliant legacy of Jimi Hedrix. She seems to see that only quality material is 'officially' released. We may all wish material would be released faster, but Jimi will be around for a long time, and we must share him with the future.

Yes she has also been a zealous protector of Jimi's copyrights, and that may ruffle quite a few feathers across the web. But protection for musicians' intellectual property today is a rare thing. So thank you for that too Janie.

I'll take her over Alan Douglas any day. Even with the weird things she's done, like the Gibson "Jimi Hendrix" model guitar that was such an embarrassment it went down the memory hole.

Why was it an embarrassment? Just curious. Not being critical of your comment

I'd like to have one of those. Is it a Gibson scale or a Fender scale?

All in all Experience Hendrix have done a good job with the catalogue. Obviously Janie's treatment of her relatives or legitimacy to own the Hendrix legacy doesn't have any bearing on the output quality. Only downside is the excellent sounding pre EH compilation HDCD CD (UK) went out of print when the rites transferred.

How can Gibson legitimately make a Fender guitar ? Surely that makes it a Gibson.

They can do little things to make it different, like the reverse headstock. For instance, that's all the Japanese company Fernandes had to do, with their Fender copies, to satisfy lawsuit requirements, they changed the shape of their headstocks slightly.

I think it would be cool if it had a Gibson scale length.

The whole concept was an abomination. Gibson makes a ugly-as-sin cheap crappy Strat-like object with a Firebird headstock, puts Jimi's signature on it as though it's something he would have played, and calls it the "Jimi Hendrix Signature Model." Then she has the audacity to put an "Authentic Hendrix" sticker on it.

Feast your eyes on this POS:

People are too critical sometimes. I don't know anything about that Hendrix guitar, but if it was a made in USA Gibson, I would like to play one.

Fender has done the same type of thing, making Gibson style guitars, on occasion:

Btw, those Fernandes copies were as good as Fenders....

The Toronado? They were kind of weird looking, but I liked them. Gibson scale, two humbuckers, Les Paul 500k pot wiring. They were Gibson style Fenders with bolt on maple necks. And I never saw one of those Hendrix guitars before. I bet they're actually collectible.

I think Janie and co. have made a real mess of Jimi's legacy.
    - Pretty well everyone agrees that the mastering of the three Experience albums has loudness issues.
    - the post Experience material is an utter shambles
    - Live At The Fillmore East was poorly compiled
    - Winterland (box) was butchered
    - Berkeley didn't get the treatment it deserved
    - West Coast Seattle Boy was weak
    - Valleys Of Neptune and People Hell And Angels further confused things and used a few Frankenstein creations by Eddie Kramer.
    - their persistance in marketing outtakes like finished albums is dishonest
    - ...
Full marks to them for the purple box, Monterey, Woodstock and the various Dagger releases though.

I'm grateful for the purple box, South Saturn Delta, and First Rays of the New Rising Sun to go with the core catalog.
Thankfully for me, while I like Hendrix I'm not a major fan.

    That. Is. Awful.

If you purchased one of these, you deserve to go to a Mexican prison immediately without trail for the rest of your life.

  18. I have that HDCD, almost forgot about it. Time for a spin!
Man, wouldn't it be great if the core albums were released on SACD by MoFi, AP or SHM-SACD.

It would be an interesting guitar if it has a Gibson scale length -- a Strat with a 24 3/4 scale, that would be cool and not awful.

With 2 humbuckers and 3 way switching, yup.

Bass VI is the same body shape too.

Yeah, it's kind of a hodgepodge of all these different guitars.

When you say Berkley didn't get the treatment it deserved what did you mean? I think it has a raw live sound that I like. I don't want the records to sound over produced. I think Neptune sounds to sterile.
