The Allman Brothers - where to start.

I was thinking of giving the Allman Brothers a shot. I love Lynyrd Skynyrd if that means anything. Which albums would anyone out there recommend. Much appreciated.

 

The best one is the live one at the Fillmore. Anything with mushrooms will do

 

Get their first three albums. Or just get At Fillmore East and if you like it then go back and get the first two albums.

From there I would proceed sequentially.

Brothers and Sisters is my fave, it's an easily accessible album. It hasn't got DA but it's a terrific set of songs.

 

At Fillmore East.

 

You can't go wrong with anything up through Brothers and Sisters. Idlewild South didn't sell and was subsumed by Live At the Fillmore. But it's great. There's a deluxe version now.

 

Also The Allman Brothers were known for their live concerts. So don't overlook their live albums. Most of them are very good.

 

In order, my suggestion for the first 4 to acquire.

 

It's been said - At Fillmore East, then Eat a Peach. If you like those you will probably be a fan and get into the rest.

 

Concur...Fillmore East is one of the best live albums ever in my opinion. Then go with Eat a Peach and Brothers and Sisters. Those three should hook you

Just start with their first album, that will tell you if you want to investigate them further! That's how I started and I have everything up to Shades of Two Worlds on vinyl.

Allmans are definitely one of those bands who are best approached in the time honoured chronological fashion. Start with the first album and proceed further, album by album, and don't stop until you have got enough. If you still hanker for more, start all over again.

In that order or reverse order but Fillmore is the best
