Just have Retrospective, which is excellent. Especially like their '64-'66 songs.

Now have 5 or 6 cds, including Eric solo work.

I see them more as R&B than rock.

I once had a cd single of 16 Tons by Eric from Joe and the Volcano. Sent to me as a bonus by Rhino. Long gone I'm afraid.

We Gotta Get Out of this Place has recently been featured on Canadian TV in an ad for buying a (bigger) house, ie get a mortgage :(. Can't believe Eric endorsed it.

Eric in all likelihood doesn't even own a small percentage of that song. ABCKO (Allen Klein's company) probably owns all of it. Plus Eric didn't write it, so he probably doesn't even see a cent from it.

I only have greatest hits CDs of the original Animals and the psychedelic Eric Burdon & The Animals - love what's on both of them.

Love those Animals. Their version of "House" was one of the greatest rock adaptations of a folk-blues song ever. And Sky Pilot ranks as one of the best anti-war statements of that era.

    I'm sure you're right.

The ad is actually amusing, but I can't see Animals endorsing the yuppy fantasy of trading up it plays on.

In my opinion, the Animals were one of the great British Invasion bands. I have a greatest hits record that I probably listen to as much as any Rolling Stones or Beatles records. "It's My Life" is as good as it gets.

I like all of their early albums a lot. I only have a compilation of the psychedelic years.

I have a friend who puts them in second place all-time after The Beatles. Me, I like them, but even though they're definitely comp-worthy, somehow I never got around to buying that comp.

Speaking of owning the copywrite I believe Burden and John Weider wrote Sky Pilot and a couple others also.

    Mann and Weil wrote it.
How about Bear Family following up its stereo Hermits box with a good sounding Animals collection? Both groups were mono-only for the stuff performed by Mickie Most until the Bear broke the code to the Herman stuff.
Then, on to those mono DC5 recordings!

His most recent CD is a real return to form after many wilderness albums.
    Really.

Huge "yes". Great band and Eric Burdon has one of the most distinctive voices in rock.

  17. Burdon is the best white blues singer of all time. Only Joe Cocker is close.

I need to check it then, I really respect this guy and I believe he is a true artist. Thanks for the heads up.

I especially love the psych albums from the later Eric Burdon and the Animals. More recently, I have had the pleasure of seeing Eric live seven times and loved every one of the shows. It has been nearly ten years now since I last saw him live and I would love to catch him again soon.

I dig their "poppier"/commercial stuff (It's My Life, Don't Bring Me Down, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and so on) but have never liked their blues or R&B stuff. I only have the Australian compilation "The Most Of The Animals" that covers the 64-68 period but it has all the hits, so it has served me well.

'Animalization' was one of the first LP's I bought as a kid, and I still love it.
