An ABX test result(s), perhaps? See an example of the report + additional materials posted in another thread... ;)

    off off off
    Your confused old man*!
    Your post:
See??? You post: "This is like "vinyls" "; too which i 'stick me tongue out' in a mocking way, because i know full well "vinyls" is not Yiddish.

"Bupkis" is Yiddish, which is old, & means "nothing".
"Butkus" is Urban, which is fresh, & means "nothing".
These are two diff words from two diff times, even tho they mean the same thing, one doesn't come from the other & it's not an amalgamation either.

i was right posting "butkus" & you were wrong in falsely attempting too correct me; get over it!

    * "Old Man" is not derogatory, it's a fact & it's a fact i'm old too!!

Looks like I'm not... ;) Here is the report of my unsuccessful ABX test after carefully lining up 2 excerpts: one from 24/44 <unlimited?> 2009 USB & another from 16/44 <limited+dithered> 2009 CD, & attenuating 24/44 audio by 0.2dB to achieve equal perceived loudness:

Jeez...... I did not mean to imply that vinyls is Yiddish. I just usED it as an example of a term that people younger than me (just about everybody) have corruptED & use improperly (in fact, as I type this, my computer is trying to spell-correct vinyls).

"These are two diff words from two diff times, even tho they mean the same thing, one doesn't come from the other & it's not an amalgamation either."--This is just plain delusional.

When the FLAC or MP3 file is selected, you press the option button on the remote. A sub-menu comes up and it's a simple button press.

Use VOX - it's on the Apple appstore and it's free and simple and has a great clean interface. I listen to all my FLAC files on it.

  9. Agreed. Still, you'd think iTunes would at least "offer" to convert FLAC to ALAC, like the Windows version of iTunes offers to convert WMA files.

You can convert flac to wav in foobar then feed that to itunes

I have both the stereo CD box set and the USB Apple. I can't say if one is better than the other, but there is definitely a difference between the two, can't really describe it. One thing for sure, the clarity of the USB Apple flac files (not counting Help and Rubber Soul) is so good, it makes the 320k MP3 files also on it, sound downright awful by comparison, and I am usually okay with 320k MP3 files, too.

The USB stick versions of the songs are the best available in my view. 24bit 44.1; but the 24 bit allows greater detail. And the Beatles often had quite a bit doing on in their songs so the details are worth hearing.

probably best bet is to keep an eye on ebay. I picked one up at an excellent price but it was a couple of years ago.

I've missed a couple on eBay at really good prices (well under $100) because the stem was broken. I keep looking for another one of those!

I bought this package a few years ago and leave all the FLAC files on a Drobo. It's how I most often listen to The Beatles (and my other digital music). I have a Mac, play FLAC through Fidelia (application), to a Wyred4Sound DAC2, which God modes the FLAC files, sample rate and bit depth. I like the sound-- probably the cleanest version of The Beatles catalog I own.

I still love records, but I don't always feel like pulling out the LPs, especially if I have another project going.

Every Beatles LP in Stereo Hi-Rez - what's not to like?, yes I think they sound about 10% better than the 2009 CDs
and mostly sound better than my Y&B pressings.

Whether via my Audiolab M-Dac or Hifiman HM-901 the 24 bit versions sound superb to my old ears.

That link is to a computer reading, not your ears. and definitely not mine.:)
I had a look at your equipment profile, how are you listening to these?

  24. Linto

    Linto Mayor of Simpleton

yes, why not ?- but as your equipment profile is blank it's hard to say.

There is some digital harshness that I hear in all flac/wav, but the low level detail resolution is a
real ear opener. And detail for me is #1 aim in audio.

Unsuccessful ABX test result I referred to simply means that I couldn't reliably distinguish between the 2 track versions: 24/44 & 16/44. Track excerpts were carefully lined up & perfectly level-matched, too. The test was performed on my study's headphone rig, BTW.
