Vetoing inclusion on a "copyright protection set" would put the bootlegged take of "Don't Bother Me" into the public domain. That would be a very odd choice. Of course there is plenty here that they are NOT protecting. So we'll have grey market versions of the Beatles Christmas Show, for instance, and all the tracks from 15 episodes of "Pop Go The Beatles" that fall threw the cracks. If they are going to do this, you'd think they would protect everything. Odd indeed.

That is a certainty. And not being keen on downloads, I hope they do.

Yes, a fair point. Although that future may be so far away that we can't even conceive of it. The time for maximizing the profit on any of this stuff would appear to be NOW (or better yet, 10 years ago).

Likewise. Nice to see them put in the effort, but doesn't seem essential.

But the sound recording is not theirs to veto (and, in this case, neither is the publishing copyright, though that's not the issue)

PS. Take 9 of ISHST has already been issued in 1995.

Are these going to be exclusive to Europe or what's the deal?

    That's true.

I mean it won't be hard to get ahold of it after it comes out. But I'd rather buy it..

Well yea, but the complete session tapes for I Saw Her Standing There, There's A Place, From Me To You/Thank You Girl/ One After 909 and the first 7 takes of Misery have been around for more than a decade. THEY make up the vast majority of available 1963 outtakes. It's folly to think they'll ever release each and every take, false start and break down. Not forgetting that take nine of I Saw Her Standing There has already been released, and an outtake for This Boy as well. It's still possible that Don't Bother Me was accidentally left off Wog's list... I can't believe that Olivia and Dhani would veto one of George's own compositions (but it's certainly possible). The BBC songs have indeed all been b00ted... but since nearly every 1963 show has been unofficially released, this doesn't mean much. The three exceptions... Bad To Me, I'm In Love and an "undubbed" Money are tantalizing themselves. Ron

The take of "Don't Bother Me" was in great quality on the Japanese boot "Alternative Take" from early this year. More or less it's not a huge loss.

While they have been available on boots for years, I don't have any of the material here (in a lot of cases, I didn't want to bother with trying to find boots, dealing with sound quality, etc.), so I'm really looking forward to this!

In fact, I told my wife that this is something I will be buying on my own, sidestepping the reliance or hope that someone would give me an iTunes card for Christmas to buy it.

You are possibly correct, Ray, but if so, my Christmas will be RUINED!

The Dylan "1962" copyright extension set was on CD-R, sold only in Europe, and supposedly limited to 100 copies. The new "1963" set is only available on vinyl, and despite showing up on various Amazon sites, it remains unclear how many of the sets were actually created (Wikipedia says 100, but that seems far too low).

It would certainly appear that these Beatles downloads will only be available in the countries where they NEED to be available, and for only as long as lawyers determine they need to be available to be considered "released". And then poof.

The entire session tape has been in stellar quality since the 1990's and widely available underground. Ron

well of course it's a truly wonderful world, just that it will SUKK if there is no iTunes release in the USA.

    What up with that?

Wow, this looks cool. I don't have any of these, as I don't like to collect boots. I will admit to buying the comp that came out this year with mostly-Best era material from '62 and earlier that entered PD last year. This looks way cooler.

I just wonder what the price tag will be (and if this will still be available a week later - I always get a bunch of iTunes gift cards for Christmas).

    Oh, the irony:

    1) It's a release designed to combat bootlegs.
    2) It may not end up being available in North America.
    3) North Americans will end up finding the tracks via illegal sources.

    Is this an Onion article?

iTunes released the 1963 Christmas message a couple (or more?) years ago.
