Yep. Promo clips is where they were at at the time & it was still a BIG deal for a show too show promo's from 'The Boys'.

    EDitEDbyED:
a dreamy as it might be, "The Beatles" [John, Paul, George, & Ringo] never appeared live again except for 'The Rooftop Concert'. That's what they choose & that's what we have too live w/.

    Photoshopping:
Cute! i'll bet there are talented people (not me!) that could do a color 'live' Sullivan Show Beatles show!! My vote goes for the '69 single tracks "Get Back" & "Come Together" appropriate enough!

I believe the Let It Be promo was shown on Sullivan in 1970.

George needs to be playing his Tele or Les Paul, and John his Casino.

didn't they also show Two Of Us (the second version, as it appeared on Let It Be) from the movie in 1969 or 1970?

There were actually plans for the Beatles to tape an appearance in the U.S. for broadcast on March 1st, 1970, and paperwork was filed by Sullivan's staff on February 20th. When Bob Precht got wind that John and George were using their appearance on Sullivan as a cover to get into the States, he called the INS to have the petition revoked.

Wow- love these bits I didn't know or don't remember...and that was after John's "divorce/daft" statement... Who knows maybe Paul would have held back from his statement.

I wonder when they'd have informed Paul?

Nah. The Beatles was a rock band. They recorded before multitrack and could actually DO their stuff live. It would have been easier for them to actually play live than to learn the mime.

That was back in my stoner days, and I was a big Saturday Night Live fan. I use to laugh my ass off at their offers to the Beatles.

Not quite.... that's the widely circulated version. The TRUTH (from an inside source) was that their driver didn't know how to get to 8H. John and Paul even took instruments.

Ed Sullivan Show played 'Let It Be' & 'Two Of Us' on the same show just prior to the release of the 1969 single. It was quite a shock when kids like me flipped on the B-side!

Even 'Beatles Monthly' was giving away tickets for the 'Get Back TV show' as competition prizes. After a couple of months, they gave up and changed the prize to a ''crisp £5 note and this fabulous wristwatch''.

The single Let it Be was released in March 1970, not in 1969. Although everyone had heard the song thanks to those radio stations and the subsequent bootlegs.

That is closer to the rumor I heard before the Lennon interview...that all four showed up after 1 AM and the show was already off the air.

Can't get much more insider than Lennon himself, who said they couldn't be bothered going, they were too tired (and probably 'emotional')

All four Beatles? Ringo and George weren't even in the country. Typical silly 70s reunion fever nonsense.

Read about this the other day. Shame on Precht, who is Sullivan's son in law. Now of course he's using the 50th Anniversary to garner attention to himself. Dope.

No offense to George and Ringo, but if John and Paul showed up at ANY TV studio in the late 70s, I'd at least get a camera person taping away...

I thought it was funny in the Two of Us movie how a fan recognized John in the bar and pretty much ignored Paul.

I'll have to double check... someone I used to speak to who claimed to be a 'Beatles insider' turned out immensely full of ****e. If HE was the one that told me that, then yes, it was indeed crap. :)
