Funny, as I always edit that bit out when I add it to digital playlists. That ending has always ruined an otherwise perfect song for me, plus it was never on the original Capitol 45 single mix. I should admit that the sound of a train in the distance is one of my favorite sounds, but in my opinion, that ending was just rudely edited and that train just seems to attack the listener out of the blue. I still can't get used to that ending, even after hearing it on the album for years.

Dark Side of the Moon by Floyd, mentioned by many.

Other nice effects are the train/dog barking in Caroline No, and the thunder storm sound in Uncle Albert (McCartney)

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but the Doors' "Riders on the Storm" with its rainstorm sound effects is a good example.

The House that Jack Built by Metallica from the Load album. I've always loved the song and all of the swirling effects throughout really add to the intensity of the track.

Absolutely! Growing up in Chicago, it was one of the first songs that really evoked imagery for me, due in large part to the sound effects.

The horse galloping transition between "Roy Rogers" and "Social Disease" on Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
The clinking coins on Heart's "Say Hello" from Little Queen. It's an amazing 3d sound effect that just sort of hangs in the air.
The door slamming and someone running on Yes' "We Have Heaven" from Fragile.
