Massive sound from these bands any thoughts . I was a always impressed with their large sound despite being just three instrument players . The doors also fit that category and I know cream and Hendrix do too. Any thoughts.

    and Black Sabbath, and...

What an odd premise narrowing it down to three choices, two of which wouldn't IMO even be in contention of winning at all. The Who and Hendrix make sense, otherwise there are other more worthy contenders to single out.

Should it count if they use tracks or invisible players under the stage?

    Who has invisible players under
the stage ? Are they ghosts with musical talent or something?

  12. Queen. They used lots of overdubs on their studio recordings but they sounded huge on stage too.

I'd reckon that CREAM were the godfathers of the whole "power trio making a huge sound" thing.

You people must all be deaf because your ears are still ringing after hearing The Who

I'm sorry, could you repeat that?:D

Hell, The Who were still loud when I saw them in 2016...too bad the sound mix in the arena was utter sh-te, though.

I think the Who were amazing with the basic rock line up of guitar, bass guitar and drums.

The Police were pretty good too.

In the case of the Led Zep, Page used a wall of guitars in the studio and they were missed when they played live IMO. I was never too impressed by their live performances although I admit I only heard the original live record (Song Remains the Same) and some Youtube videos.

Everybody is going to mention their favorite band that meets the criteria. In a live setting, the loudest band I’ve ever heard was Dinosaur Jr. On record, the list is endless due to studio trickery such as overdubs. I know The Who had the Guinness Book World Record for volume for a time, but I guarantee you Dinosaur Jr. was louder in a club. I had to stick cigarette butts in my ears to save my hearing.

I realize loud/big sound is different however. To the OP, I’d say Van Halen had a large sound on record despite eschewing overdubs on their early records.
