Personally, as much as like both bands, I'm ok with the Portland show being sans The Furs, as I saw them play the same venue two years ago this week. (It was a great show, too, btw.) As long as I can see The Church, I'm cool with that. The Asylum, is also only a ten minute drive from my house, and while not a huge venue, it has great sound. They also have a conjoining sports pub/bar with decent, reasonably priced food, so you can catch a meal there before the show if you are so inclined, but there are also a couple dozen other choice restaurants within waking distance. And used record stores, too - Moody Lords, Strange Maine, and Electric Buddha are a very short walk away, and Enterprise Records, Merchant Co, and Bullmoose aren't much further. As for Hampton Beach, a looooooong time ago, it was a casino, and a ballroom, so they use that name to celebrate the history of the place. That said, it is one of my least favorite places to see a show. I only go there if that's the only place a band is playing in the area, but other than that, I'd rather drive the extra hour into Boston and deal with the traffic there, instead. GA shows are ok there, but I very much dislike going to seated events there, because of the set up of the room, and the way they do the seating. Oh, and there's no AC in the summer, and being up on the second floor doesn't help in that department.
Uninvited is one still on my list. So are two other mid-2000's "jam" releases (Jammed, and Back with two Beasts). Will pick those up eventually...
The Jam stuff is great, but I like the actual albums that came out of those jams a bit more. I think their 2000's output was unexpected and of a quality nobody could have foreseen.

A Q & A I just did with Martin Kennedy of Kilbey/Kennedy and All India Radio: http://volt-and-volume.com/blog/an-...l-india-radio-and-his-various-other-projects/ http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threa...ys-all-india-radio-his-other-projects.452670/
Very cool interview, thanks for sharing. The first Kilbey/Kennedy collaboration album led me to explore All India Radio, "A Low High" being the first and it grew exponentially from there to a massive number of CDs and a couple key pieces of vinyl. I've almost come to love All India Radio as much as The Church and that is saying a lot. They of course are two quite different bands. Great to hear of the Dave Bridie collaboration that is in the works as he is another of my fav musicians.
I'm assuming this tweet from The Church today is referencing the shows they are doing without the Psychedelic Furs: "For our headline shows in North America we will be performing The Blurred Crusade in its entirety plus F/D and more. " A dream come true for me!! Portland, Maine, here I come!
You don't have Uninvited??? Anyone see the setlist from last nights tour opener? Are they headlining or the Furs?
Back With Two Beasts is a great album. I'm not that into "Jammed", though the looong jam session on the bonus disc of Hologram Of Baal was excellent.
Anyone catch Buffalo show last night? Reviews and setlists for both bands? I'm spoiled by all the live coverage of recent U2 tour. Yes I realize this is apples and oranges, but in a right and just world all three bands are HUGE!
Really good Louis! The Church are really a tight live unit these days, and while it is not quite the same without MWP, there is an onstage chemistry with this 5 piece lineup is palpable. They played their standard festival set of 9 or so songs, but 5 were epics (opener Block, Toy Head, Disillusionist, You Took, closer Miami) - unlike the Furs this was no greatest hits show, since 1/3 were from the new album! I didn't like seeing The Church as the opening act though - very strange to see roadies packing up band gear DURING the outro to Miami! I'm jealous @Rocketdog gets to see them play two sets including complete Blurred Crusade. Having said that, I'm glad I chose to see the Furs for the first time. Total nostalgia show (one new song), but neither the band or the fans cared. In fact, Richard Butler is a real character and was up on stage smiling and acting goofy, and get this, clearly enjoying himself and seemed grateful to be there. I was expecting a snarling, aloof, post-punk egomania. Sound mix and volume were better during The Church set. The depression era ballroom was a weird venue, and they had banners around the room showing different famous acts (and date played) including Duke Ellington, Led Zeppelin (1969), U2 (1981), and a bunch of famous comedians (Carlin, Seinfeld).
The word on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Runtshop Runt - Home of 4 Men With Beards, Plain Recordings, Water and DBK Works "We will be reissuing "Priest = Aura" by the The Church Band in early 2016. This will be a 2-LP set on 180 gram vinyl. It was previously only available as a single LP German import that has long been out of print. Priest is a long time fan favorite and Steve Kilbey's choice as the best Church album." You'd think this is good news, but consider the source. Remains to be seen what they do with this. .
Got into this band recently, and wow, it's got to be one of the best discoveries I've made in quite a while. I'd heard and liked some of their songs before but never properly delved into them album-wise. Funny how certain things pass under your radar sometimes. I only have two albums so far - Heyday and Starfish - and they are absolutely great.
You are ONLY getting started..believe it or not the music only gets more sophisticated from there..no going back my son!
I really wish they would take more care I what they issue. They license great titles, like this one, and consistantly screw up the sound quality.
Fingers crossed they do justice to this glorious album! As others have said, enjoy the journey. Only about 22 more albums to go for you!
