“I remember I thought that if you had the support of a session guitarist and a non-committal response from a bassist, it meant that you were an integral part of an orchestral fusion project. Oh I can smile about it now but at the time it was terrible.”

I’d never have gone, but I do feel a tiny bit sorry for all concerned. Joyce’s intro to Reel Around The Fountain is one of my favourites moments in the Smiths’ songbook.

If it's Craig Gannon, an orchestra and your granny on bongos, it's a Smiths gig.

Does anyone know who legally owns the name The Smiths? Morrissey and Marr, or all four? I also smell a possible law suit by Morrissey and/or Marr.

  8. Is Jimmy Page still looking for a band to join? He could ask his neighbor to join also.

Gannon's out now, blames Andy, and posted something he's since removed off Facebook, this seems to be the text:

    What a mess.

This act made less sense than Creedence Clearwater Revisited, and that's saying something.

I understand that they’ve stayed friends, and have played How Soon Is Now on stage together twice, in 2006 and 2014.

Aye, though Marr's recent quotes on this reunion show he was NOT happy to not be consulted.

Even back in the day post Smiths, Rourke played with Morrissey for a while. That's the era I found sad, and right now? Who knows. . Johnny saying in newspapers he was annoyed with these attempted concerts makes me think there's still damage, or new damage.

Don't know what was in this for Andy. But as you point out... There are very public, and very lovely, and musical shows of union with Johnny and Andy.

Indeed, musically, if I picked two Smiths only - well at times, I've actually gotten my wish. :)

Well he can hardly blame Andy given that A seemingly knew little if anything of this and backed out as soon as he found out.......

Johnny has a solid reputation as friendly, approachable, pleasant. I get the impression that the extremely sporadic nature of Morrissey’s contact exasperates him somewhat but I don’t think he bears M much ill will.

On the other hand, Joyce’s court case clearly cost MJ his friendship with Marr (unlike Andy who settled).

Update: the orchestra just quit, after the conductor expressed the view that he hoped the cello section would be killed in a motorway pile-up.
