    Brian?

    Mike?

    Bruce?

No one can quite tell who sings this line. The whole song is composed of single lines sung by (as far as I can tell) Brian, Mike, Carl and Dennis in equal measure.

My money's on Mike, but since there's pages on the identity of the vocalist on an indistinct Beatles passage, this surely can get a few replies…

I've always thought it to be Mike.

I think it's Brian, though Dennis definitely sings the very next line.

Apparently this has been done on other boards, but this might warrant a line by line examination of the song.

I always picture Carl. I shall listen again!

Nice excuse to take out that AP release...

I have trouble distinguishing between their voices on probably 15% of the catalog.

I can't answer your question but...
Once I heard the Beach Boys 'SMiLE' version, the song lit up for me like when you switch the Christmas lights on a Christmas tree for the first time that year. Magical! I just can't go back and listen to the Smiley Smile version anymore. To me it feels like it's ripped the soul from the very song and left it sounding like everyone is bored with the concept. I adore the 'SMiLE' version completely and it's nice to have the stereo version off the 'Made In California' compilation.

I don't know about the Smiley Smile version (voted for Bruce) but I'm sure the Smile version is sung by Brian. :wiggle:

Having just played it several times I'm wondering if it's Al. Not got Mike's attack, and doesn't sound like one of the Wilsons.

Dennis sings the 'listen to Wind Chimes' right after it, which I'd not spotted before.

The 'Smiley Smile' version is extraordinary, insular, extremely weird and almost frightening, but nonetheless fascinating.

The 'SMiLE' version is just out of this world. Masterpiece. And (correct me if I'm wrong) it was a finished cut when the SMiLE sessions finally halted.

Van Dyke Parks (just kidding but it reminds me of him). I don't know on this one. I have always wondered who sings/says what on a lot of this album. Is there a breakdown anywhere? (Especially "She's Going Bald").

I initially thought it was Mike, but upon further listening, I'm not sure.

I think it's Brian doing one of his funny little voices.

I agree. In this respect, "Wind Chimes" is somewhat of a precursor to Mount Vernon and Fairway.

I just listened to this on the 2012 stereo Smiley and it sounded like 2 tracks - one whispering - so it could be a combo...

I'm guessing it's Mike but it's pretty hard to say. On the positive side this made me go listen to Smiley Smile, that's always enjoyable.

I'm guessing the surviving members don't remember who sang it either, if you get my drift.
