I know some of you are going to go nuts over this but it appears that the Doors will perform a live concert with a yet unnamed lead singer. The attached article points the finger to Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots). After seeing the Doors tribute concert a few other candidates come to mind:

    Ian Astbury from the Cult
    Scott Stapp from Creed

    So two questions:

What are your thoughts on a Doors concerts (sans Mr. Morrison)?
Who should fill in as the Mr Mojo?

Let me point out that The Doors have played together several times after Morrisons death.

Alright, someone has to fill me in on this one. I am aware of the Doors Tribute concert a year or so ago and the album of that performance that was released. But what other concerts have they performed, albums have they released and who sang lead vocals?

I must have been out for lunch when all of this happened.

I think Scott Weiland is perfect, actually.

Here's a mp3 snippet of a Stone Temple Pilots song where he's doing a pretty decent Morrison homage:

He also has a great stage presence, and is in his prime (young, sounding great, finally drug-free, and on top of the charts).

The Doors released two albums after Jim's passing, Other Voices and Full Circle. Neither are avalible on CD, although one track, "Tightrope Ride" is on disc 3 on the Box Set. In fact their not even include in the discography section of www.thedoors.com . Robby and Ray shared lead vocals on both.

How about Val Kilmer on lead vocal? He was great in the movie, and from everything I read, he actually did the singing. ;)

For those interested, Other Voices and Full Circle were released on CD in Russia. Last year, copies turned up regularly on eBay. I picked them up for around $25 each. The artwork isn't too bad, and the sound quality is quite good. The music is lacking (I knew this going in since I have the albums on vinyl), but I wanted them on CD. I haven't checked eBay in a long time, but the CDs may still be available. In addition, the two titles were available in one release. You might find that one on eBay too.

I think that Val Kilmer would be great and also is almost as popular as Morrison was so that wouldn't hurt appeal or sales either.

Ian Astbury will no doubt do well though I'm sure. The members of the Doors most likely could have any lead singer they wanted and probably auditioned several. Until I hear different, I'd like to think that the boys could and would pick a suiteable singer to fill the 30 year void.

And as far as live performances go - they toured in support of both albums. As I remember, Other Voices was pretty good. Sounded like... The Doors. Don't think I ever heard Full Circle.
