"Brainiac's Daughter" reminds me of Jeff Lynne-period Idle Race
circa the "Come With Me" single.

"You're My Drug" is of course The Byrd's "So You Want To Be
A Rock & Roll Star" with a little bit of the first Spirit LP thrown in...

I've been meaning to give another listen to The Idle Race - I'd like to have them on the comp.

I'm with you on The Byrd's "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star".

    Okay, here's another update:

    "What in the World?" (updated):

The Beatles - "It's Only A Northern Song", "It's All Too Much", "Rain", "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite"
Zager and Evans - "In The Year 2525"
The Bee Gees - "In My Own Time"

I have added The Bee Gees - "In My Own Time". I suspect this won't be the only Bee Gees added to this comp.

Added "Lovely Rita" and "Strawberry Fields" to "The Mole From The Ministry". Those recommedations were spot on!!! Many thanks!!!

Some pruning (not the electric type) will probably happen as in the Hollies songs for "Vanishing Girl" and the Stones songs in the general influence category.

Okay, I'm re-thinking this - I don't think "My Love Explodes" is as much "19th Nervous Breakdown" as "Little Lighthouse" is. LLH has the bass notes sliding down at the end - MLE has specific bass notes FRETTED as it moves down the neck. I'm trying to think of a song that has this happening in it. The song that POPPED into my head was the Beach Boys "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow". There has got to be more.

Also, "Happening Ten Years Time Ago" by The Yardbirds - did we miss this on one of the Dukes songs already discussed (compare the riffs of HTYTA to "My Love Explodes") or is it coming up? It seems it should be on here somewhere, but I wanna make sure we have a reason to put it in.

Okay, I've romoved The Rolling Stones - "19th Nervous Breakdown" from "My Love Explodes". It'll reappear for "Little Lighthouse". Don't know if I should put the Beach Boys "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow" on there for the bass. It would be cool to have the track, but it does go against the no-instrumentals rule. If we can find a track that is better suited and with vocals then that would be great.

I've also added recommendations for "Have You Seen Jackie?" - great picks!!!

And I've added Tomorrow - "Auntie Mary's Dress Shop" for "Your Gold Dress". Seems like a perfect fit.

Now, if we are done with "Jackie", we can move on to "Little Lighthouse". This song should be a fun one.

I don't know how I missed THE song that fits here. Same chords running down. This song is now added to the comp:

The Yardbirds - "Happening Ten Years Time Ago"
The Yardbirds - "Heart Full of Soul"

    Love - "7 and 7 Is"
    Pink Floyd - "Astronomy Domine"

"Arnold Layne" is now not needed for this song. It's still on the comp for another.

Nothing to add here? Or is it just the holiday weekend?

I've added some Electric Prunes to "Little Lighthouse" because of the tremolo guitars the songs have in common.
Also, I have in my notes from a few years ago that this song is influenced by The Steve Miller Band. As I have nothing in my CD collection with the words "Steve Miller" (unless MAYBE on a comp), I don't know what song to pick or if it is truely an influence. Can anybody help me out here?

Lyrically, but not musically, the "I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper" ditty from the Clockwork Orange soundtrack leaps to mind when I hear "Lighthouse Keeper."

Alright, we'll leave "Little Lighthouse" for now. I still don't know what that Steve Miller Band song is, so I have question marks there for now. If we don't get more info, I'll just take the SMB out of there.

But before we move on, I thought the recommendation of The Doors' "My Eyes Have Seen You" was an interesting choice for "My Love Explodes". It fits in there nicely, so it's on the comp. Well done! I wasn't before, but now I'm thinking that The Doors may be on this comp for a few more songs before we're done here.

I've also added The Rolling Stones - "Paint It Black" to "25 O'Clock" - it's another how did I miss that song" situation.

    Next song up:
