I recently gave in and bought a cheap second hand copy of 'Bend Sinister' to tide me over til the Omnibus edition. The five albums box is indeed good value, picked it up to fill in some gaps.
I can't say, as I haven't listened to it in decades and while I've got a copy I'm not sure exactly where it is. I sure felt poorly treated at the time, though.
It's actually pretty good; although if it was touted as the latest greatest I can see some disappointment maybe, now that we can dispassionately evaluate all these things it isn't half bad...
The Remainderer Released December 2013 on Cherry Red Records (CD and 10") 01. The Remainderer (Smith) 4:34 02. Amorator! (Smith/Melling) 3:24 03. Mister Rode (Smith/Melling/Spurr/Greenway) 6:39 04. Rememberance R (Smith/Melling/Spurr) 6:09 05. Say Mama / Race With The Devil (Earl/Meeks)/(Vincent/Davis) 3:07 06. Touchy Pad (Smith/Poulou) 2:25 Mark E Smith - vocals David Spurr - bass Keiron Melling - drums Peter Greenway - guitar Eleni Poulou - keyboards With: Ding and Tamsin - backing vocals Produced by: Mark E Smith, Simon "Ding" Archer This for me is far better than Re-Mit. Overall I like the concept of the mini album when it comes to latter-day Fall, it is far easier to digest the music at this length and it also introduces some much needed editing. While I don’t think I will ever be blown away by anything this line-up does musically the tracks here are all decent with a nice variety of sounds and styles. While MES frustratingly does veer off into drunken pub singer at times, often within the same song, he does seem focussed and engaged the majority of the time. Very little to dislike here and a good album for the casual or lapsed Fall fan to get a picture of where the group were at this time.6.5/10 for me.
Call me picky, but I would have preferred the b-sides to be next to the a-side so everything is in order. I guess though that would have made it harder to do the 3cd set.
Nothing on there I need, but it looks like it does what it says on the tin, with a few puzzling omissions - Big New Prinz, Container Drivers off the top of my head.
Just catching up on some detours I'd missed at the time, and I have to say that if one takes Smith's Law (about what constitutes The Fall) at face value, then Tromatic Reflexxxions is the best Fall album of the last ten years, by a considerable margin, and 'The Rhinohead' is probably their best single. I can't remember the last time I've had so much fun listening to Mark E. Smith. 'Flooded' is just begging to be covered by LCD Soundsystem.

This is kind of a shameless re-packaging as the DVD had already been released in 2004 under the title ‘A Touch Sensitive – Live’. The CDs are just the audio track of the DVD which is fairly pointless. Yarbles Released September 2014 on Secret Records (LP only) 01. To Nkroachment: Yarbles (Smith, ME/Smith, B) 2:47 02. Quit iPhone (Smith/Spurr/Melling) 4:10 Mark E Smith - vocals Dave Spurr - bass Peter Greenway - guitar Keiron Melling - drums Daren Garratt - drums Eleni Poulou - synths With Rob Barbato and Tim Presley - all instruments (track 2) Produced by: Mark E Smith The 30th Studio album! Generally considered as one of the better Fall albums of the last 10 years. As seems to be the way on later Fall albums, tracks 3, 7, 8 and 10 are alternate versions on the vinyl (tracks 3 and 10 are almost twice as long on the vinyl, the other two tracks a couple of minutes shorter). Annoying for the fans who then have to buy both but there you go. Track 2 is notable for not including any of the regular line-up – it was recorded in the US by past members Rob and Tim with MES adding vocals later.
Like this one too - favorite track Junger Cloth. Yes, annoyingly the CD versions of three of the best tracks - Dedication, Auto Chip, and Fibre Book Troll all better than the vinyl equivalents, I think. Interesting contrast, the production on this and New Facts Emerge, quite different. JimB, you are almost there! This has been a heroic effort and rekindled this old Fall fan’s love of the band, and for that I am grateful!
Same here, top job, Jim. I have even got tickets for the show at Koko next month as a result of renewed interest. I hope it’s not a total shambles.
Always pleased to see an update to this thread! Picked up the new Fontana years box as I didn’t have ‘Code: Selfish’, glad I did as it’s pretty decent.
True but I've read positive reports of the following gig at Newcastle, MES apparently in good form despite being confined to a wheelchair. NP
Yes, concerning, but in encouraging fighting form on the basis of this Blindness from Newcastle gig...
