No, this is before PCM. There are some nice AUD's of the March shows, Jerry was in a great space at this time.
I was thinking the exact same thing while listening to Go To Nassau; it would be real nice to see more inside the moving parts of that year via some good mix jobs; there is a lot to like about that year, lots of small rooms still, and I agree with your Jerry assessment.
Go To Nassau is a gap in my collection that I've been looking to fill for some time, but if it really is going for over three figures I probably never will. That seems crazy for a wide release like that one was, I'm kicking myself for not picking it up when I used to see it frequently (sadly, this was during the years when I'd temporarily stepped off the bus).
As some others have commented I think you can find one under $50. I got a M- copy from the classifieds here for $25 just a few weeks ago. Edit: I missed the two new posts above from @Dahabenzapple and you before I hit send on this. Sorry for the repeat info.
I don't usually check in with Reddit, but every now and then they have an AMA (Ask Me Anything) that piques my interest. Trixie Garcia will be doing one tomorrow at 2:00 PM (EST), which might be of interest to folks here. I'm curious to see if anything about the future plans for solo Jerry releases or reissues comes up.
I should note that the Althea on "Go To Nassau" is exceptional, as my current listening party reveals.
And when Phil initiates the launch sequence at 4:48 of Jack Straw, the band eschews a countdown and slams into full-on beast mode immediately.
Still plowing through the Annotated Lyrics book. I just learned that they slowed down FOTD because they heard Kenny Loggins cover it that way. I am depressed.
FWIW, in the early 70's Loggins & Messina were not so far away in style from CSNY (also an influence and friends of the Dead) or maybe even the New Riders. Loggins went pop later on.
Oh I know, I actually almost amended my initial post to say "and I say that as a fan of your Messina years". Still, he does have a lot to answer for, particularly once that soundtrack money started rolling in.
One oddity is that the original Betty Board auction included one or two Loggins & Messina shows as well as her many famous Dead recordings. Maybe that had something to do with how Garcia heard their FOTD version.
I'm never quite sure I understand the problem many here have with downloads, but one can get the music from Go To Nassau for $20, and the album has no significant artwork or booklet anyway Grateful Dead - 5/15/80 Go To Nassau: Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY
