The Hippie from Lennon's Imagine Movie on Cavett, too?

    Hi,

If you've seen the film "Imagine" from 1988, you probably remember the scene where the bedraggled hippie staying in Lennon's garden meets him to discuss some Beatles lyrics. For some reason, I found that scene pretty memorable, and it always stayed with me. In case you don't remember, the exchange in question occurs around the 5:41 mark:

A few years ago, I saw a clip from John and Yoko's appearance on the Dick Cavett show in September of 1971. If you look at the guy asking the first question, isn't this the same fellow from the Imagine film?

He's cleaned up, but I'm convinced it's him.

On one hand, this guy has to be the luckiest fan of all time -- having two exchanges recorded for posterity.

However, with the way John died, it also is a bit scary to think of the sheer number of folks who were a bit too obsessed with John. Obviously, it wasn't just this guy...

The saddest part is that John appeared genuinely concerned about his fans, and his openness cost him dearly in the end...

    Wow, they do look identical.

Everytime I've watched Imagine, I've thought that the "hippie" was a character or a plant that was a member of the entourage but was used to show some kind of 'empathy with the everyman" by Lennon. Not that the clip that made the film in '88 ever made it out anywhere else for that purpose, but seeing this Dick Cavett clip, I wonder if he was a part of the entourage or hired hands that was used to convey something.

Kind of a jumbled post, but do you get my drift? Maybe it's not coincidence. I think it is the same guy. Good catch!

Wow, it does look like it's the same guy. In the movie, he mentions that he has read about something and in Cavett he says the same thing.

When that Cavett interview was released a few years ago I remember thinking "bugger me--same guy!"

Following John Lennon around is one thing, but that whole "were you thinking of me when you wrote that song?" bit is creepy.

I've heard other people point out that it's the same guy. I think it definitely is. If this person was obsessed enough to camp out at John's home, it makes sense that he would get into the Cavett show too.

This guy must have been a real follower in the true sense of the word. First he visits Lennon at his Tittenhurst home in England and then he appears in an American TV show. But doesn´t he speak with another accent there? I´m no native speaker, but I´m sure you guys can tell.

I think the guy in the blue sweater/red pants in the first clip (the film "Imagine") looks like the guy who asks the second question in the second clip (the Dick Cavett show).

All them dirty hippies look the same!!!!
They look similar, for sure. I don't think it's the same guy, though.

  17. The guy from the Lennon clip seemed to be spaced out, drugged out, and not really in touch with reality. The guy from the Cavett show was quoting Collier and Horowitz's Ramparts political newsletter! Seems like two different people to me.

It's him, no doubt. Same mannerisms, same vocal intonations.
The only question to me would be, was he a plant?
