I watched it last night and wish I could unwatch it. It really fails as a horror movie because it is not remotely scary at all, just visually and emotionally unpleasant. It's like German scat porn disguised as an indie horror film. The surgical procedure itself may be 100% medically accurate but the aftermath certainly isn't. The mad Doctor was well casted though. Good performance.

I just watched it, and it grew on me. I mean wanting the Doctor to get his just due was my real interest. It was not truly scary, but strange and sickening and honestly it was somewhat suspenseful.

I watched it & thought it was OK but not great. There was one scene I thought they could've done differently to make it better. I bought it on DVD because I don't think the Blu Ray disc would have shown any more.

Isn't there a sequel already in the works? The first film is, after all, subtitled "First Sequence"... and I could swear I've read something about another film that continues with the doctor's experiment.

    According to IMDb:
The oral sex scene was filmed using remote cameras with only Vincent Gallo and Chloë Sevigny in the room.

Just be grateful it wasn't called "The Human Stink Bug".

Two things: guys, it's a film for pete's sakes. Quite a clever premise too I think, once the ick factor's taken into account. The guy sets out to make the audience want to barf. It's not sick, it's not depraved, it's a film.

Sick and depraved happens day in and day out in our world and most of it, in fact, way more than you and I realise even exists, happens without our knowledge. Be thankful for that lack of knowing.

Have you seen Brown Bunny? It's pretty good. Even Ebert gave a positive review to the theatrical cut.

I think I'd rather watch Singin' in the Rain instead. Why isn't this out on Blu-ray, but Human Centipede is?

Why do people ask ridiculous questions in that vein? You work in the business - you know that it's not some simple "either/or" decision...

You really should tell The Human Centipede to get off your lawn.

  17. This thread/movie reminds me of a horror-porn site I accidentally stumbled upon where the seasoned reviewer was mentioning how unsettled even he was at some new direct-to-video film. Might have been the film August Underground - the description sounds right. Who is the audience for stuff like this?

Yeah but remember, the darkness in our hearts will grow if nourished. Why provide water for that seed? Our actions our born out of ideas.

I myself enjoy horror films, probably for the factor of conquering fear, but movies like Saw and Hostel are different. They cater to a different voice and I don't like the sound of that voice at all.

I was anti-Hostel - because of all the shouting about "torture porn" - until I saw one of the Hostel films. Actually, I think they have merit. It was a well told story (the plot was 3 girls on vacation on some Baltic isle, forget the name) and well made. Yes, there were very violent moments (though, I think none reaching the queasiness of the head-in-vice scene in Martin Scorcese's "Casino"), but as a dark, gothic horror film I don't think the violence in the films was gratuitous or pornographic, at all. So, now I don't judge the so-called "torture porn" films (at least the Hostel series) as harshly as I originally did.

"The Human Centipede"? Well, frankly, it sounds a little pornographic to me. I've seen stuff on the Web and this is definitely a film that will appeal to people with certain perversions I've encountered by accident. I believe the term is "scat."

It does look stunning in blu-ray. Not as bad you'd think. Kinda a better looking crazy 70's underground film.

I wonder if "The Human Centipede" is an example of a movie idea that's been waiting to be made & once it's sequel is done with, the movie makers will move on to make better films. As successful as George Lucas & Steven Speilberg were, they each had their bad movies ("Willow" & "Duel") & continued on with some great ones. It's like they got it out of their system. I'm glad "THC" was made because it's now done & aside from the upcoming sequel, we can all move on now.

 What great movies did Lucas make after "Willow?"

The Indiana Jones sequels & Star Wars Prequels. Some people do think they were great.

I like those flicks okay, but I've never heard anyone call the prequels "great"!

And what's with the hate for "Duel"? It's a good flick - it's far from being Spielberg's worst.

BTW, Lucas didn't "make" "Willow" - Ron Howard directed it...
