The Jack Cassidy (actor) thread

This is the place to discuss my favorite Columbo villian, the late Jack Cassidy. Any info, insights, and commentary are welcome. I'm here to learn.

 

just saw a columbo with him last night as the great santini.

 

Yeah. That's the one that inspired me to create the thread.
Funny thing is, I was watching it all last week as I had it DVRd from last time they played it. I didn't know it was going to be played last night.
Million dollar smile even at 3 packs a day

 

He died a horrible death when his West Hollywood condo caught fire and he was trapped inside.

 

Love him. He was a staple of all the TV shows when I was a kid-odd as it sounds, when he died it was one of the first times I became aware of death as a child.

 

I loved him in The Eiger Sanction

 

Does not look Italian.

 

Saw him on Broadway when I was a kid in the musical "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman." He did not play the title role; he played the villain. I also have him on the original Broadway cast recording of "She Loves Me," for which he won a Tony. He played the villain in that as well.

 

I started this thread and forgot to mention that he's the voice of Cratchit in Mr. Magoo. Shame on me

 

Like Alec Baldwin now, he was in on the joke. His stint on MTM as Ted Baxter's brother is a case in point, just hysterical when he does the Sears (?) catalog trouser demo!

That Columbo episode is classic, and just a few nights before 'Man In A Hurry ' was on Andy Griffith, a couple of great viewings.

 

I first became aware of him in "He & She". Loved his portrayal, can't think of his character's name now

 

He was a manic depressive alcoholic with anger issues when he wasn't working. He passed out smoking and that started the fire.

That said he was an amazing actor and a brilliant Broadway style singer.

 

He played actor Oscar North, who played a live action cartoon character "Jetman".

 

And of course he was David Cassidy's daddy.

 

LOL! I saw Shirley in a TV interview...she had huge things to say about her X...even more in her book.

Watched the Columbo where he plays Riley Greenleaf the publisher. Using a drunk driving accident as an alibi is genius.

 

He was (said to be) insanely jealous of David Cassidy during his "Partridge Family" days. He was also the instigator of many threesomes with Shirley Jones and other people (according to Shirley Jones' Autobiography)...

I thought he was great n Columbo but my fav villain on the show was Patrick McGoohan
