Did a early morning listen this morning to a truly fabulous album. This is the Analogue Productions reissue as I refuse to pay the outlandish price to get a first pressing. Released in 1956 on Prestige Records, catalogue 7043. This is a jam session of giants in jazz! Elmo Hope Informal Jazz Elmo Hope — piano Donald Byrd — trumpet John Coltrane, Hank Mobley — tenor saxophone Paul Chambers — bass Philly Joe Jones — drums

I've lost count of the number of times BN recordings have been reissued... They'll probably keep reissuing them until the earth becomes inhabitable in a few billion years
Blowing In From Chicago - Clifford Jordan | John Gilmore (Blue Note) CD with Clifford Jordan & John Gilmore (tenor sax), Horace Silver (piano), Curly Russell (bass), Art Blakey (drums) Recorded 1957 / CD - RVG 24 bit mastering. A great session from an equally great line-up!

This was in yesterdays mail. Oddly enough, after decades of listening to Blue Note, this title is new to me. First fresh listen is a treat! Elvin Jones - Puttin' It Together Blue Note TOCJ-9238
Nice one! I have that on the following John Surman 2CD set that includes all of Surman's Dawn Recordings (The Trio, Conflagration, When Fortune Smiles and Live at Woodstock Town Hall). You inspired me to put it on... NP: John Surman - Glancing Backwards: The Dawn Anthology (Disc 1, "The Trio", 1970) John Surman (soprano & baritone sax), Barre Phillips (bass), Stu Martin (drums) (Sanctuary 2xCD, 2006)
I was surprised to find this one in the bargains... Longitude - Martial Solal Trio (CamJazz) with Martin Solal (piano), Francois Moutin (bass), Louis Moutin (drums) Recorded in Paris 2007 One (Amazon) reviewer hit the nail on the head when they remarked... Collaborator Dave Douglas points out in the liner notes, Martial Solal is a "fearless improviser". These words are a perfect description for Solal's often chaotic and frenzied, two-handed style of soloing. Martial can stop on a dime and make a change for a dollar. As ideas burst into Solal's head he switches, tempo, mood, texture, etc to take each song off on a new direction on whim. Fans of the piano, bass, drums piano format should pick this one up. If you are an avante garde piano, bass, drums trio fan, get out to the store now and get this right away.
