Now listening to Teddy Wilson - Too Hot for Words - HEP (UK); 1935 recordings, many with Billie Holiday. The non-Holiday tracks will be included in the upcoming Teddy Wilson Mosaic set. Billie's recordings with Wilson never sounded so good in my opinion. This CD was mastered by the late John R.T. Davies.

It may not be up there with the best from the Mingus discography but it's still worth a listen.
My thoughts exactly, were it not for the 2 sets that are scheduled for this month (1930s Teddy Wilson) and April (Savory Collection).

William Parker - Double Sunrise Over Neptune Recorded live June 19 & 20, 2007 at Vision Festival XII by Stefan Heger Mixed and mastered by Stefan Heger at Fisheye Music, Cologne Lewis Barnes: trumpet Rob Brown: alto sax Bill Cole: double reeds Sabir Mateen: tenor sax, clarinet Dave Sewelson: baritone sax Jason Kao Hwang: violin Mazz Swift: violin Jessica Pavone: viola Shiau-Shu Yu: cello Joe Morris: guitar, banjo Brahim Frigbane: oud Sangeeta Bandyopadhyay: voice Shayna Dulberger: bass Gerald Cleaver: drums Hamid Drake: drums William Parker: double reeds, DOSON’ngoni, conductor From William Parker’s liner notes: “Double Sunrise was borne of a concept I call universal tonality, which is based off of the idea that all sounds like human beings come from the same place. All sound has a heartbeat and breathes the same as each human being. Some sounds are born in Africa; others are born in Asia, Europe, Australia or America. These sounds pass through certain human beings. We don't invent sounds, we are allowed to encounter them; we don't own them, they existed before we were born and will be here after we are gone. Musically, Double Sunrise Over Neptune has to do with the blending of sound with intent and message. The poetic intent going through the music is “do not kill another human being for we cannot bring them back to life. One day a double sunrise will appear in the sky. We have until that time to become One with music.” All the musicians involved in this project are great leaders, composers, improvisers in their own right. I thank them with all my heart for their unique contributions on this recording.”
Bill Bruford - If Summer Had Its Ghosts Ralph Towner - twelve-string guitar, classical guitar, piano, keyboards [electronic keyboards] Eddie Gomez - bass Bill Bruford - drums, percussion
Still working my way through the Miles Prestige 10-Inch set. Big fan of Miles' at Prestige. I've always connected with the "searching" Miles Davis, the in-between-the-next-big-thing Miles.
Beware! Unfortunately HEP are another company now practised in the art of distributing their out of print (factory pressed ) CD titles in unadvertised CD-R format.
Glad I got my HEPs when they were still releasing CDs... As far as I know financial considerations made them make the switch to CD-Rs.
Ugh. You know I don’t mind if companies do that — whatever it takes to keep them open and the music available. But you don’t often know before you buy and yet still pay the premium.
Stanley Turrentine - In Memory Of Blue Note (1964) TOCJ-50285 Tenor Saxophone – Stanley Turrentine Trumpet – Blue Mitchell Trombone – Curtis Fuller Piano – Herbie Hancock Bass – Bob Cranshaw Drums – Otis Candy Finch
Currently watching the birds on the feeders, as the snow continues to fall outside here, east of Pittsburgh. Glad I stopped at Jerry's for some vinyl yesterday. Listening to "We Three" - Roy Haynes with Phineas Newborn and Mr. PC, Paul Chambers. It's an OJC reissue of New Jazz 8210, from "newly discovered stereo tapes" according to the label slick on the cover.
Clifford Jordan Plays Leadbelly These Are My Roots From 1965 with Roy Burrowes, Julian Priester, Cedar Walton, Chuck Wayne, Richard Davis, Albert Heath & Sandra Douglas on vocals for a couple of tracks (marvelous they are as well). Some outstanding music here, highly recommended.
