Bobby Hutcherson - Medina Blue Note (1969) TOCJ-50298 BNLT 999 Series Vibes – Bobby Hutcherson Tenor Saxophone – Harold Land Piano – Stanley Cowell Bass – Reggie Johnson Drums – Joe Chambers
I understand and can appreciate your thinking. All he lacks is a lit cigarette dangling from somewhere with smoke dramatically rising!
Love every album you mentioned in caps, except I could never get into Mode For Joe. To me this came across as a blowing session, a very good one, but not as special as some of Joe Henderson's other Blue Notes.
I love that ECM albums are now available for streaming on various sites because, although I love most things ECM, there are a few I would not want to spend money on, so try before you buy works brilliantly for me.
Dizzy * Goes Hollywood - Dizzy Gillespie (Philips/Verve Originals) CD with Dizzy Gillespie (trumpet), James Moody (tenor, alto sax flute), Kenny Barron (piano), Chris White (bass), Rudy Collins (drums). Dated 1963 CD playing time 36 minutes
Yes, I have it & still listen occasionally because Hutcherson is on it, but it also sounds to me like a blowing session with too many players lined up to take their solo turn on each tune.

That is a great album. I was just listening to the CD yesterday for the first time in a few years. I said to myself, wow, this is good Jazz!

Picked up Sonny Criss' Criss Craft album on reissue 32 Jazz CD. They really didn't do it any favors with that cover. Here's the original, and with a different spelling of the title - Crisscraft: From '75 on the Muse label with Dolo Coker, Ray Crawford, Larry Gales and Jimmie Smith (dr). Joel Dorn writes the liner notes for the 32 Jazz CD reissue and they're a good read. This is an excellent album from Criss. It's got a couple of Tapscott compositions, which Criss loved to play. Despite its cheesy cover art, the CD is good quality.

This music and arrangements on this disc continues to fascinate me... Thesaurus - The Clare Fischer Big Band (Atlantic) CD Dated 1968/69. Just bought the Pure Pleasure reissue of this and quite like it. I been collecting MJQ, John Lewis and Milt Jackson for quite a while now and these guys really had a wonderful musical sense. Always very uplifting when I listen to them!
I love pretty much everything Milt Jackson did as a leader independently from the MJQ, but have trouble listening to the latter for more than an album at once. I just need a horn to break this endless piano/vibraphone "monotony" at some point. But "The Sheriff" is certainly one of the good albums I'm glad to own.
