East Coasting By Charles Mingus (Essential Jazz Classics) CD Recorded 1957 A wonderful album that I bought prior to knowing that on this CD release the music may have been cloned from Bethlehem sources. Having said that, this CD edition does sound very good, plus Essential Jazz Classics have added two alternate takes plus three bonus tracks that were all also recorded in 1957. There is plenty of reading in the glossy 16 page booklet that is included.
One of the important sets in my collection is the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh Atlantic Mosaic. Great music.
I'd love to have that set! I enjoyed it so much I am replaying it which is something I seldom do, wonderful.
Dexter Gordon - A Swingin' Affair Blue Note (1962) TOCJ-4133 BN Works 4100 Series Tenor Saxophone – Dexter Gordon Piano – Sonny Clark Bass – Butch Warren Drums – Billy Higgins
I just scarfed up this one off of Discogs as a Christmas present for myself: Given that I love these club gigs of Dexter's that circulate on LP/CD (Billie's Bounce, I Want More, etc) I doubt I'll be disappointed with this one.
You should look for Fried Bananas Live 1972 Heemskerk Societiet Progress, Holland. Great performances and good sound and he does all of own voice intros.
Soundboard recording, yeah? I think I have that one, or definitely another gig from the same period- whatever I've got, yeah, it's good, but then I'm hard pressed to find a bad Dexter Gordon record (or at least I've yet to come across one...) Fried bananas? My wife cooks up a batch of those for her and the kids all the time, they love 'em. Me, not so much

It is full up with delightful Jazz influences and a classy combination of sounds from the mandolin, violin, acoustic guitar & bass. Stephane Grappelli guests on one track, a version of his own composition 'Minor Swing'.
