We Out Here - Various Artists (Brownswood Recordings) CD Recorded 2017 and issued in a cardboard triple gate-fold sleeve with all relevant background information printed inside. This is a great, recently released, compilation that demonstrates just what is currently going down with some (South) London Jazz bands. Much to my surprise I found all the music recorded from the three day sessions very listenable/appealing. "The New Sound Of London Jazz"
John Scofield’s new band played great the other night. I was at the early show. Sco Gerald Clayton Bill Stewart Vicente Archer

Gary Thomas - Pariah's Pariah (Winter&Winter) One of my favorites. The twin horns of Gary Thomas and Greg Osby are fantastic. This is an album that has my body moving. Just listen to the track below for evidence. Gary Thomas - tenor saxophone, flute Greg Osby - alto saxophone Michael Formanek - bass John Arnold - drums
Don Sleet All Members OJC CD Recorded in '61 with Jimmy Heath, Wynton Kelly, Jimmy Cobb & Ron Carter. This one's been mentioned before in the thread with some varied opinions on the SQ of this CD. For me it's fine, and the playing is very nice.
djangologie 8 / 1938-1939 - Django Reinhardt (EMI/Pathe) CD Another great release in the wonderful Djangologie series. Top musicianship and all selected 78 records superbly remastered for CD release. Benny Carter Et Son Orchestre, Larry Adler (now there is an artist I never thought I would ever spend any time listening to!), Rex Stewart And His Feetwarmers, Andre Ekyan & Quintette Du Hot Club De France
THE JAZZTET / HERE AND NOW / MERCURY / 1962 / US FIRST MONO PRESS BLACK DEEP GROOVE LABELS MG 20698 LP
Discovered this one on Friday night, and played it about four times this week so far, including on the way to work tonight: I'd hesitate to call it jazz, though
Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers - Ugetsu Riverside (1963) VICJ-60479 Heritage of Jazz-II - Riverside 50 Series Piano – Cedar Walton Tenor Saxophone – Wayne Shorter Trombone – Curtis Fuller Trumpet – Freddie Hubbard Bass – Reggie Workman Drums – Art Blakey
The Intimate Art Pepper CD from Analogue Productions From '79 with Charlie Haden/Ron Carter, Billy Higgins, Al Foster, George Cables and Hank Jones. Good music but I'm finding I much prefer listening to Art in a live setting.
Okay so my 1971 Stereo reissue of Ah Um is like the most incredible sounding record I own. So much air and impact, especially with the drums, like it sounds so f'ing good. Blows away early stereo jazz, is that because when it was reissued it was mixed using pan pots for stereo rather than just everything being hard left or hard right?
Just have to say, The Intimate Art Pepper really gets going once the tracks with George Cables come on.
Don Cherry - Symphony for Improvisers Blue Note (1966) TYCJ-81076 BN The Masterworks Series Cornet, Composed By – Don Cherry Tenor Saxophone – Gato Barbieri Tenor Saxophone, Piccolo Flute – Pharoah Sanders Vibraphone, Piano – Karl Berger Bass – Henry Grimes, Jean-François Jenny-Clark Drums – Edward Blackwell
Ask For Chaos - Gilad Hekselman (Motema/Hexophonic) CD Dated 2018. CD is issued in gate-gold cardboard sleeve. This is an album that should appeal to anyone with an interest in hearing some nice, laid back spacey guitar led pieces.
Onto much more familiar territory now...
