I like it too A LOT. There's a very weird, ominous vibe to it which I enjoy. I think Justin Theroux does a great job.

My favourite scene from season 2. I'm going to assume anyone still reading this has seen last season.

I love this song! Never heard of her before the season two intro either. I wonder if they'll stick with this one or go with a new intro.

  6. Re-watching Season 2. Episode 3. I remember why I didn't like the Laurie and Tommy sub-plot too much. It's okay, though. It was still an amazing season.

Laurie is a hard character to like but that subplot was neccessary to the story as a whole, I think. A week to go, BTW.

  8. Oh, it was necessary to the whole, for sure, only how episode 3 was almost all Laurie and Tommy hurt the flow a little. But hey, that's really my only nitpick. It's a small one.

Watching it again, I'm seeing things that I hadn't noticed the first time. Very subtle things. Quality stuff.

I just re-watched S1 over the last 3-4 days. Loved it every bit as much as when it first aired. Some thoughts.

    - Carrie Coon is just amazing. Not that I didn't recognize that the first time through. I always thought she was the breakout start of the show. I don't follow awards nominations and shows, but if she didn't receive some official recognition for her work on this show, that's a shame. Especially in episode 6 where she goes to the conference. Nora goes through a full range of emotions and state's in that episode, but never veers into insanity or overacting. They all seem genuinely like Nora and the character previously established.

    - I really like the mayor and her interactions with Kevin. I understand why she wasn't part of S2 and I don't know if they could realistically contrive her to be in Australia with the others for this last season. They wouldn't have the same dynamic anymore as they would not longer be mayor and police chief, so its probably best left alone. But I thought she was really good. Looking over her credits, she's been in quite a bit, but nothing I've seen other than 1 episode each of Rubicon and The Office.

    - Do we ever find out (maybe in S2? I can't remember) what Matt the preacher did with the $160,000 he brought back from the casino? We know he stuck a role of cash back in the Garvey's backyard, but not all of it. When he dug up the can, there were two fat rolls and we find out the total is $20,000 when he exchanges it for chips at the casino. He only put one role ($10k) back. What did he do with the other $150k since he couldn't buy the church? He presumably paid the backwages owed to the babysitter for his wife as we see later she is still working for him.

    - Until I got partway into episode 9, I completely forgot that
Laurie was pregnant and her fetus departed right out of her.
    That's wicked!

This is easily on my short list for top 5 favorite pure dramas of all time. Can't wait for S3!

One more thing, I liked the S1 credit sequence but really liked the S2 one even better. I hope they come up with another all new for S3.

Upon reflection, the second season was pretty bad but I'll give it bonus points for going beyond the source material. I hope season 3 is a bit better.

Disagree. TV doesn't get much better than season 2 of this show.

The season 2 opening scene was bizarre. Aside from the location and the tremors, I have no idea how that scene ties into the rest of the story.

  17. When you're gone you're gone, and somebody else comes along to deal with the aftermath. They take yours as you took theirs after them. Nothing changes. Their corpses lie ten feet away from us and we are oblivious to their presence.

There is a theory that the people never left. We simply cannot see them.

I see the setting itself, with the earthquake, though - as there are no real earthquakes in Texas - as once upon a time there was an earthquake in Texas, and it took an extraordinary event for the tremors to happen again.

The cavewoman, of course, was cut off from her kin, and we see how she protects the only thing that she has left. There are snakes, though. If there weren't, we wouldn't have a show.

I also thought this 'pre-historic' prologue COULD be the spot where 'the well' was!
Of course, THAT would be connecting it to Damon's other show, "LOST", where things happen at the same spot, in different times in history, and, oh yeah, there's a well!

And I don't have HBO anymore. Heh.

I have a remedy for that, though. It's called watching it on Mondays. :D

I have no idea what to make of that ending. If the writers do try to explain the departure, one possibility is that
there were actually two departures. 2% went to one dimension while 98% either stayed in that world. Perhaps, the 2% stayed, and the 98% departed. I thought that perhaps we weren't getting a glimpse of the other world in that last scene. The area seemed so barren, and it would be if we were getting a glimpse of the world in which only 2% of the world's population remained. Then we saw it was who was riding the bike. It doesn't lend much weight to my theory.

Don't know where it's going, might become a big WTF enigma when the season is all said and done. However those first 3-4 minutes (maybe a couple more, i dunno) of the season opener were stunningly brilliant! I was Godsmacked with that emotional Lost high, like you got when Lost was at it's best.
