I just bought the "Mastering Engineer's Handbook" by Bobby Owsinski, published by Mix (Magazine) Books.

It has several interviews by the likes of Bob Ludwig, Glenn Meadows, Bob Katz, Bernie Grundman, our forum's Bob Olsson, Dave Collins, and other prominent US mastering engineers.

The book is a fundamental textbook for any starting/wannabe mastering person. A considerable amount of space is used discussing/ranting about the ongoing practice of compression in today's CDs. It does, however have some good instructional points on just how to do it.

The book cost me $35 at Borders, but worth it.

I think Bob Katz's views come strikingly close to Steve's...

Sounds like a very recent publication then...like, within the last few years?
