One that instantly comes to mind is one the most obvious but it still is a haunting song none the less....

    EL&P Still....You Turn MeOn

Also from the self titled Mannfred Mann's Earth Band (1972) I will have to select Sloth...

Sloth is a nightmarish instrumental ala early 70s Pink Floyd...

MMEB is such a fine LP,the band covers Dylan & Randy Newman and even adds a little humor unlike the other groups from that genre....

All of Can Tago Mago which is IMO the groups crowning achievement

Savage Rose is a Danish band that released a few fine LPs in the early 1970s...

    And still recording today...

Your Daily Gift (1971) although is IMO their best record it also contains the marvelous Tapiola

And if you count early Queen as prog, then 'White Queen (As It Began)" and "In the Lap of the Gods" deserve mention.

My pick for Van der Graaf Generator would be House With No Door.

  16. I'm not sure if Alan Parsons Project qualifies as prog (it does in my book), and I Robot has many haunting songs, but the closing track "Genesis Ch. 1. V.32" is pretty compelling.
