It was made in the late 70's, Clint Howard and Charles Martin Smith are in it. They form a band called Cotton Candy and attempt to beat Rapid Fire during the Battle of the Bands. I saw this about fifteen years ago (it must of aired at 2:00 a.m.)

I remember that movie! Didn't the battle of the bands take place in a mall? And the lead singer of Rapid Fire made his "big entrance" up the escalator before kicking off a rousing rendition of "I Shot the Sheriff".

That's what happened, and I remember at every appearance Rapid Fire started things off with I Shot the Sheriff.

I just looked on Allmovie.com to see what info they had on the movie and I saw that it was directed by Ron Howard and written by Ron and brother Clint.
I never knew that. I'm surprised he doen't talk about that one more.
Wow! He's come a long way.

Oh yes, I remember. That darned Rapid Fire, stealing "I Shot The Sheriff" to win the contest. Sheesh. ;)

The week that movie first aired, it was all we talked about at school that week. TV Movie of the Week, I believe. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

What I wouldn't give for a copy of that movie on VHS or DVD. I've been looking for years, too.

I to remember that. And wasn't I Shot the Sheriff basically the only song Rapid Fire actually knew?

Wow. What a trip down memory lane that is.
