One of the oldest samba groups still in activity:

Demônios da Garoa - Saudosa Maloca (1957)

Yeah, and great guitar parts all over this record. Did you know Motta is known for having at home an incredible collection of more than 30,000 LPs?

Lovely, a compilation of songs by others that Jobim contributed to the Brazilian "Songbook" series.

Picked this two cd set up for .01 and shipping from amazon. Has some rarities I haven't yet identified nor seem to have in my collection, quite a few.

There isn't much current Brazilian music worth mentioning, but these guys are great:

Their three albums can be downloaded for free on their website: http://www.dibigode.com

There's also a new one coming out soon.

They'll be playing four shows in Minneapolis this week, so if you're anywhere near, check them out!

    That's a great album!

Be sure to also check out the 1972 original soundtrack for 'Selva de Pedra', by Marcos Valle.

It's one of his strongest works and includes these three tracks performed by Osmar Milito & Quarteto Forma:

Yeah, it's a winner! I especially dig the jazz covers of "Cantaloup Island" and Mercy Mercy Mercy".

Cooool, I will definitely check that out! Speaking of soundtracks, I was able to snag the Valle/Azymuth OST for O Fabuloso Fittipaldi. Beautiful stuff:

Beautiful indeed! I could do without all those spoken snippets though!

Marcos was on fire in the early '70s... He even wrote and recorded the soundtrack for the Brazilian version of Sesame Street!

Been digging Jorge Ben's first album lately. He was, what, 18 when that came out? Pretty accomplished songwriting.
