Since photobucket done it's thing, I thought I'd post my table again. Avid Sequel SP SME 309 arm Lyra Delos cartridge Nordost Frey 2 tonearm cable external power supply on vibrapods I went from a Pro-ject RM5 with a Ortofon 2m Bronze to this. If you think that the law of diminishing returns is somewhere in the neighborhood of the RM5, you'd be mistaken. The sound of the Avid combo is so far ahead of the Pro-ject, it's jaw dropping. It helps that I got a smokin' deal on this. I would never been able to afford something like this at new prices.
Thanks for the kind words. If you were still in Vancouver, I would invite you over for a cold one and a few records. It's a pleasure to listen to!
A Grado Laboratory Series arm, to be exact. My TD-124 was originally set up with one from the dealer in 1961 (I have the receipt to confirm), but it had been removed and sold separately by the time I purchased it a few years ago. (I still have the original armboard though.) I recently bought a very clean arm with the box, paperwork, weights, etc. for a good price, and I upgraded to Cardas interconnects. It sounds very good, but it has some issues that I believe are related to dirt or wear on the vertical bearings. I'm going to send it off to Marc Morin in Ohio to have a look, and he'll possibly fit it with jeweled bearings. It has a lot of potential.
Here is my new addition to the family. VPI Prime with a Dynavector 20X2H cartridge. Bonus points to the first person who is able to spot what's "wrong" with the turntable.
Don't scare me like that The arm lift lever broke off when it was being packed up for me so VPI has another on its way.
Oh, sorry, I guess the Dynavector is color-coded different from my cartridges. Usually it's left wires on the left pins, as viewed from the rear, but the DV must use the front view perspective. Probably a lot others too, I just haven't noticed. Some fun listening ahead for you, that's for sure!
My gosh, I thought I was the only one that thought VPI had lost their minds furnishing that stupid looking, truly tacky mat on their turntables, it's beyond unbelievable, yet there they are, probably because no one is saying anything like you and me, and they are about as terrible as they can get. I still have mine in a box, anyone want to buy one?? I bought a new one, just a nice standard black mat.
Just love those acrylic platters, and copper, what can I say, one of these two would be nice! Hartvig!
Mrs_in_OKC goes green. Pro-Ject Debut III with platter from an Xpression, mat from a Rega, and a Dynavector 10x4 MKII.
My beloved Thorens TD166 MKII. My best friend and roommate brought this home in the 80’s .. after 30 years of askin, it’s mine. He stored it away after only about a year of light duty ( cd cam along) and well.. here it is.
Not much activity in this thread lately so I'll post a few pics of my Micro Seiki DD-40, in this case, sporting an Audio Technica AT33PTG/II cartridge and Micro ST-10 disc stabilizer ...
