My Reference Lenco MK III by Jean Nantais with an upgraded platter, Origin Live Encounter MIIIc arm and Charisma MC-2 cartridge.
I'd need to completely change my HiFi rack/shelving arrangements to accommodate a 45kg beast like that! Still, when I win the Euromillions and I'm ordering my SL1000R, I dare say I'll not be too worried about the practicalities of it all
Although I've always been aware that the SL1200 were solid turntables, I was never that struck on the look of them (I associated them with DJing) and probably would never have bought them between MKII-VI. However, ever since Technics resurrected them as the GAE/G/GR I've really come to appreciate them for the marvels that they are. If I were in the market for a new turntable now, I couldn't see myself buying anything other than a 1200GR/G, in all honesty.... ....unless I found myself suddenly VERY wealthy, in which case it would be the SL1000R all the way. I can but dream
you know that carnival game where you swing a hammer to hit a lever that sends a weight up a track towards a bell? Technics rang the bell and sent it flying with these new tables....
Agree 100%. Beautifully made and very very capable. A take a chance purchase I don't regret for one minute.
I was just about to ask if that was a 1200GR with a Herbie's. Looks great! Does the new GR still require the 285mm mat, or does it use something different?
yes, the GR has a raised lip at the edge of the platter. the 285mm mat fits inside perfectly. strangely enough the stock mat didn't fit inside the lip....
Technics SL-1500MK2 (re-plinth) put back into active main duty, today, while I re-cap my main table. Listening to Pat Metheny Group ~ Still Life (Talking). This deck might just be in for a long stay... ...again.
1968 release of Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 'Fool On The Hill' spinning on my new Music Hall mmm-1.5 turntable with an Ortofon Red mounted. Vinyl heaven!
