    Revels: Intoxica

    To Steve,

I just got a CD copy of "Intoxica" by The Revels from Sundazed and I'm blown away by the sound, especially considering the vintage (early '60s) of the recordings.

Have you done other jobs for Sundazed that you can recommend?

I think that The Revels disc is the only Sundazed that Steve H. has done.

Since Bob Irwin does his own mastering now...... Well, you see what I mean?

    Sigh.

It tickles me to see a thread named: Revels: Intoxica

Some guy in Finland reading is reading that and scratching his head. "What the hell is Intoxica"?

What do the Revels sound like you are wondering? Remember that scene in Pulp Fiction where the big black guy was getting, er, um, violated by that weird dude in the pawn shop while The Gimp waited in the other room? Well, the music in the background was "Comanche" by The Revels.

Was I totally surprised to hear that in the film? Yes.

Was I totally surprised that they used the version off of "Surf Legends (And Rumors)" without asking? No.

    Pipeline.....The Chantays

And, I might also point out that on "Surf Legends and Rumors", the cut of "Pipeline" by The Chantays is the ONLY Cd on which the original, unfiltered stereo master was used. All the MCA releases use copies with the highs muffled (I know, I have 'em all)

I have the clip of The Chantays doing "Pipeline" on The Lawrence Welk show......heb BOY is that funny!!!

Surf Legends (And Rumors) is one of the greatest CD's EVER!

I play it at least once a week. It keeps me honest! (As Bruce Springsteen said about Buddy Holly).
